'Murica

It's like they still live in the 19th century over there

Another day in 'Murica , another mass shooting in 'Murica.

A couple of days or so ago , 10 innocent people shot dead in a shopping center for no reason by a an idiot in Colorado.

This , just a few days after 8 innocent people ( mostly asians ) were shot and killed by another imbecile at different spa businesses in Atlanta.

A country that makes it extremely easy for anybody to own a gun , where in some states it's even a law to carry firearms into a church or a restaurant and where the government is very much in the pocket of pro gun lobbyists to do anything , somehow people in 'Murica still wonder why these tragedies keep happening

"Guns don't kill people. People kill people" , they say in 'Murica.

What a country.

And OP if I had to pick being shot to death or stabbed to death by a kid on a push bike I couldn't. Both are hideous.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Frame it that way and no one will disagree. But most people would also tend to choose the outcome that involve dying, and on balance I'd rather live in a country where violent criminals and people with mental health problems who are having a 'bad day' have access to blades only, rather than guns as well as blades. People are four to five times more likely to be murdered in the USA than in the UK. You could say that the median American is considerably more evil the median British citizen. Or you could ask whether easy availability of firearms may have some bearing on this disparity. Apparently, 73% of homicides in the US involve firearms. If you took those away, the stats would look much more European.

'Median American is considerably more evil than the British citizen'

Stupidest comment I've ever read. Appreciate you're trying to make a point but the astounding point is I think most of the world seems to believe this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Either you’ve missed his point, or I’ve missed yours. I don’t think RR is seriously suggesting that the “median
American is considerably more evil than the British citizen”. He’s implying that this might be one conclusion to which people might leap, almost certainly incorrectly, if they were unwilling to consider the effect of gun laws on murder rates.

Unless I’ve misunderstood his point and yours!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You didn't misunderstand my point, Clockwork.

I think it was pretty clear that I was pointing out that if you take the "guns don't kill people..." argument to its logical conclusion, you end up with the absurd idea that Americans are a lot more murdery than Brits. Since my previous paragraph explicitly made the case that free access to guns made it easier to kill people, Fred Klopp either had a reading comprehension failure in this instance or, for his own reasons, decided to take an excerpt from a sentence from a longer post and frame it in a way that changed the meaning.

Yeah. Don't live in 'Murica everyone.

In Texas, we are importing COVID-19 from the Mexican border because the masks may or may not work. Wild times.

Also, Biden with the greatest press conference in modern era yesterday. Totally worth the wait.

I didn't see the press conference, but was it even better than the one where the other guy suggested that drinking bleach could cure Covid, or the one where he said Covid was a hoax? Biden was set a very high bar.

Yes. He answered everything thrown at him with poise and grace. Better than that dumb mango man who's just there to check out the brunette journalists and make up soit on the spot

....

The right wing / Conservative media, Trump and the Republican Party have set the bar so low that it really isn’t surprising that Biden was showing an early approval rating of 68%.

Trump never got above 49% in his four years and was mostly in the low 40’s.

Which poll are you using?

His approval rating is 54% according to 538. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/biden-approval-rating/

The border crisis is a growing issue for his camp. I'm not sure how or what's the right way to go about this going forward because they've gone too far down the rabbit hole in encouraging people to come over.

....

One that came out about three or four weeks ago, hence why I said “early approval rating.”.

He never topped 55% since January 20th through an aggregate calculated by 538. Hence why I asked which poll you're using. I'm pretty sure the very high approval rating is coming from Politico run polls

For me I can't trust the polls anymore. Data is prone to error and bias
