Wolves v West Ham match preview

Date: Monday 5th April
Kick off: 20.15
Venue: Molineux

Thanks everyone for your input to the chit chat thread but now it’s time to start thinking about Premier League games again and what position can we achieve after the next 9 games.

On Monday Wolves welcome West Ham to Molineux.

After enjoying a winning streak of 6 games in all competitions in January, West Ham have won only 4 of their 10 games since although to be fair, the 4 losses in that period have been to Liverpool, Manchester United (twice) and Manchester City. Their last game, against Arsenal finished 3-3 with 5 of the goals scored by West Ham players.

In the reverse fixture at the London Stadium in September, West Ham ran out 4-0 winners with Wolves’ striker Raul Jimenez scoring his 3rd goal of the season, unfortunately at the wrong end!!

Having had a 21 day break since their 1-0 home loss to Liverpool, Wolves will be hoping to benefit from the return of forward Daniel Podence who has been out of action since early February with an Adductor injury.

Wolves players, coach and fans alike are eagerly awaiting the return of their Mexican talisman who has been recovering from the fractured skull he sustained at The Emirates on 29th November. However, unfortunately, this game will come too soon for him to make his comeback.

Wolves currently occupy 13th place in the table with 35 points 9 points above the relegation places but on the other hand, only 11 points below the top 6.
West Ham sit in 5th place with 49 points

After dropping points in their last home games, both sides will be keen to get back to winning ways. With both teams capable of playing quality football, this has all the makings of an entertaining game.

The game will be shown live on Sky Sports

Gem’s prediction 2-2

I give him credit, but lets face it playing in that team my granny would score.
His skill is being in the right place at the right time, but the delivery is all important.

I agree with that up to a point but I think you still have to give him credit for cool finishing. How many times this season have we seen Wolves players make an @rse of it from a few yards out from the goal line? Jota is clinical in front of goal and rarely misses a chance.

Do you think we should swop Traores with Villa? ....

No thanks, I like the one we have.

That’s 8 goals in 13 games Jota has got now for Liverpool in the Premier League. That’s a faster scoring rate than not only Mane and Firmino but amazingly Salah as well

Talking of scoring lots of goals perhaps someone can explain something to me. If playing 4 at the back with 2 or 3 up front is more attacking than playing 5 at the back, how the hell did the boggies stick 5 past Chelsea (at Stamford Bridge) when playing 5 at the back and a lone striker?
5:4:1 is obviously the way forward

Playing against ten men is more obviously the way forward.

Match day at last, can't honestly say my enthusiasm for this game is particularly high, I fear we'll attempt to stifle the life out of the game, try to keep a clean sheet and not worry too much about scoring. Having Podence back though will give us another attacking option from the bench.

Rumours around London town that key West Ham player Declan Rice picked up an injury on England duty and will not only miss tonight’s game but also the rest of the season

Rice out of tonight’s match with a knee injury.
