Elon Musk

Sorry for the off topic discussion but I'm genuinely curious as to what people think of him. Also bored to death of International football as you might have guessed.

Anyway I am absolutely fascinated by what he does and what he's accomplished so far in his life purely off the back of selling his stake in PayPal to eBay for 160m.

His work in the field of renewable energy and in particular in the automotive and transport industry is quite something. He's not the only one responsible for this obviously as many other people are working with similar goals but I thinks it's fair to say his work with Tesla has probably accelerated the timescale of when all the big car companies will go fully electric by maybe a decade. He himself says that if that's true all how hardwork will have been worth it.

He's now applying this concept into turning entire roofs for houses and offices into solar tiled roofs too. Solar panels sitting on slate roofs will be a thing of the past if he's right. The roof will itself be the solar panel. So cool where all that technology is heading.

If that wasn't enough for one guy he is obviously behind the idea to colonize Mars by the end of this decade which is without a doubt far more outrageous, expensive and simply mind boggling idea possibly ever dreamt. However given that he has now successfully flown manned crafts into Space to the ISS joining USA, Russia and China you wouldn't put it past him to pull it off. USA, Russia, China n Elon Musk. Imagine being that cool. And he doesn't even have a Degree in astrodynamics or anything like it in fact.

And one of his latest hobbies (his words) is coming up with the Boring Project. Basically plans to create a huge network of tunnels underground to alleviate traffic issues in big cities.

I wish we had more rich people like him in the world. Not only a huge inspiration to so many but also clearly very worried for the future of the planet and human race and is actually doing something about it.

Best technological entrepreneur about if he succeeds in going to Mars, over rated narcissist if he fails. I have never bought his products.

No offence but this is true of so many people around the world.

There aren't too many self made billionaires. There's money pumped in somewhere and in most cases from rich parents.

Think Jeff Bezos is one of them though. He started Amazon from his parents Garage.

I actually don't have too much of a problem with this in of itself.

It's just the people that act like everyone else is a lazy bum comparing them to someone like musk really grates me.

Millions of kids come from houses without garages though, some aren't given the easy route to being a centibillionaire.

Exactly. It’s all about having a garage. The secret to every self made billionaire..

Turning a (few) million into billions still takes an incredible amount of perseverence, planning and intelligence.

If you stick £1m into property or any other venture which yields a 20% growth rate per year, after 50 years that leaves you with £60m.

I think it's easy for people who lack ambition or drive to sit back and pontificate about how unimpressive it is to turn millions into billions, they simply can't comprehend the tenacity or vision it takes to build a giant multinational corporation that employees hundreds of thousands of people and serves tens of millions of customers a year, from the ground up.

We might see men on Mars in the 21st century; it’s a possibility.

But if we do, it won’t be the result of a NASA-funded programme.

Let's not play around with semantics here.

SpaceX owe the lion's share of their past and present business to government/military contracts.

The Company has done well to promote the recent influx of private equity. But every single hard-nosed private investor knows that his investment is wholly dependent on a continued supply of public money.
