Aubameyang the next Henry?

Anyone else think this will be Auba’s last season at Arsenal?

There are a lot of similarities to how Henry’s last season went at Arsenal. Both were expected to leave the club on big money deals the Summer before they ended up leaving and both ended up signing new contracts at Arsenal. Both were our best players, top scorers, questionable captains and wore the legendary #14 and both were in and out of the team for a number of reasons in their final season, never recapturing the form of years gone by.

I think Auba is still a quality striker but I’ve never found him to have lived up to the expectations we had of him when he joined us. I think if you put Auba in our squad the season Leicester won the league, you’d have different champions but now it just seems like we’ve signed the right player at the wrong time. He looks absolutely pathetic out on the wide and when we aren’t controlling games or creating chances (which happens every other match), he can go missing.

Barca and Real are both after a striker this Summer. Only one of them can sign Halaand (assuming he even goes to Spain). Perhaps Auba could be an alternative option to whoever loses out? I don’t buy for a second that we are ‘stuck’ with him. He’s still a quality player that could bag a decent transfer fee, albeit lower than what we would have got last Summer when he only had 12 months left on his contract.

As poor as he has been, the manager has to take a huge portion of the blame for his diabolical form. Putting our best striker on a big money contract without any real idea where to play him, who to play him with and how to get the best out of him. It’s acts of desperation like this that have been made by his predecessors that have us where we are right now.

Btw Auba can still redeem himself by winning us the Europa but his form has really fallen off a cliff after the public humiliation suffered at the hands of our manager. I just don’t see it happening.
