Texas and Covid

So... 6 days until our next iteration of covid restrictions removal and we will be able to go to non essential shops, and outdoor dining is now allowed.

However we've been warned that normality may not return this year with a third wave predicted in late summer / autumn despite the success of our vaccination roleout.

Meanwhile in Texas, for the first game in Arlington for the Texas Rangers last night they had a sellout crowd of 40,000. Vaccinations are open to all over 16s now in the state of Texas and all legal covid restrictions have been removed across the state.

So who has it right? Over here it feels like we are just going to be in a never ending cycle of restrictions and lockdowns regardless of our vaccination programme but is the state of Texas taking a risk by removing restrictions too early?

Be really interesting to see what happens there, there was absolutely no evidence that there was a covid spread for our crammed beaches in the summer so perhaps this is something we might be able to see more?

People will no doubt turn their nose up at Americans as it is seemingly a very acceptable form of racism but objectively, should we not be striving to remove restrictions?

Thoughts?

Do you even know what racism means? How can you be racist towards people of the same race/ethnicity/colour?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Americans are all the same?

Ok.

If you presume they are all White, then a person who is not white could make a racist comment or hold racist views about white Americans.

Jesus people are simple.

Race discrimination includes nationality. Go look it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup.

One can be deemed racist toward white Irish, if you are white also.

Hating Americans for being American is pretty racist, and as Americans are white, brown etc, one can certainly be racist towards Americans, on grounds of race, nationality, ethnicity and culture.

People are silly.

The problem with this “pandemic” is that it’s being exploited by power hungry politicians to control the masses. AND how people don’t see this little factoid is mind boggling.
___________

I tend to agree with this, for what it's worth. However, a lot of people seem to conflate the idea of politicians seeking to gain/profit from the pandemic with the idea of them creating the pandemic in the first place. In the UK, for instance, it's pretty clear that Tory pals and donors have benefitted financially, while the new crime bill is also easier to defend (though I won't) during a pandemic. But people lump the whole thing in together: now, a government that delayed lockdown more than once, probably opened up too early and paid people to go out to restaurants is accused of actually wanting lockdowns. There is no nuance in people's thinking and it's pretty scary.

As a Texan, all I have to say is Texas are doing things right.

Texas cases have been going down. Deaths have been going down. F*ck the Biden administration and any Democrat who wants complete control.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So was Germany's, France's, Italy's etc etc. Cases go down all the time. Then they go up again. As will Texas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
13m vaccinations issued in Texas now. That's an exceptionally good rate.

We will see what happens to their cases but they are going to be real world evidence of the effect of the vaccine.

It's not so much the cases. It's the number if serious cases which require hospitalisation or lead to death.

In Europe the vaccine rollout has been dreadful and thus places like France Italy Poland have seen huge rises.

Texts has vaccinated a large no. so while cpvid may still spread the no. of serious cases and death and thus the pressure on hospitals etc should be way less.

Still need to plan for seasonal peaks in the same way we do for flu
