Marcus Rashford

I’ll admit I can be a big critic of his on here and at times he drives me mad with his decision making and missing of big chances but he’s shown again in the last 2 games how important he is.

The finish against Brighton was top class and the touch and finish last night was sublime. Like many I feel he is at his best when he doesn’t have much time to think about it and those 2 goals are prime examples. 20 goals for a 2nd season running is impressive for a wide man.

Ole needs to be more careful with him though. Correct me if I’m wrong as I got the info from wiki but last night was his 301st game of senior football. That is a lot at the age of 23. Ole is not solely to blame here as LVG and Jose also pretty much played him every game since his debut.

He could go on to be a great player but I feel he does need to play slightly less to reach his full potential. We really need a add a top wide man to lighten the load on him.

Back to the OP, and some players are able to play week-in, week-out without it hurting the development of their games.

Playing players through injury is something else though. Obviously we don’t know what the medics and Rashy are telling the coaching staff about his condition, but hopefully he isn’t being pushed too hard.

Our forwards are actively encouraged to carry the ball and take players on approaching and on the edge of the box if there isn’t an obvious pass on and they think they can create a shooting chance. We have agile, pacy forwards with quick feet, and they’re clearly instructed to run at defenders to try to make something happen - beat a man or win a penalty or freekick.

------------------------------------------------------------

This is an important point. It's worth the high risk of losing the ball when you dribble at the last two defenders because if it doesn't work out we're not badly exposed to the counter attack. On the flip side, in the best case scenario you create an excellent scoring opportunity, and there's also the chance of winning a free kick or you get tackled and it ricochets into a danger area.

Clearly the tactic can be overdone, and sometimes there's a better option available. But a low success rate doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad tactic. The alternative, when there's nothing on, is to turn back and 'start again' (and I recall moans on this forum about Rashford doing that too often too).

Meanwhile, another gifted penalty for Penited, scored by Penandes, after Penandes walked into an outstretched arm and threw himself to the floor.

Unsurprisingly, the referee was looking straight at the incident, as if he was expecting a last minute dive from a Penited player, nobody will be surprised that he gave Penited a penalty for a nothing challenge, whereby a Penited player initiates contact on an outstretched arm.

Hopefully Penited have used up their weekly penalty in the Europa and are not gifted another against Spurs.

‘Penited’ have some points for effort billy

He's had a decent season I guess overall, but you expect him now to be having the sort of seasons that Sterling has (apart from this season).

Should be getting a goal every couple of games or more. Maybe he'll finish the season strongly though.

Rashford’s figures are around and about where Sterling’s were at age 23.

If Jesus, Torres, sterling, Mahrez etc can, then I'm sure rashford would have no issues.
