What’s everyone’s thoughts on him?
I’ve always championed him and think he will be our number 1 for years.
People wanted him to get a run and he has. Are you happy with him as our number 1 next season?
Refreshing to see him come out of his box like a sweeper. There was one time today where Maguire looked in trouble and Kane would’ve been in but Deano came out and cleared it.

I don't know whether he wll be good enough long term for a team hoping to challenge for league titles. But I know that DDG isn't that keeper.
The problem we have, is that DDG will probably happily sit on the bench collecting 375k a week for however long his contract is. No teams going to pay him close to that.

There’s talk now about a loan deal for DDG.
I reckon there’d be a few sides willing to take him on a one or two year loan deal at £250k p/w if they didn’t have to pay a transfer fee.
Whether he’d be interested is another matter I guess.

I'm sure something will get sorted. A loan or a cut price so they can give him a big signing on fee.

I was vocal on about him not having done anything to force his way in when some people where calling for it months ago, and I don’t think he has the ability to get the level DDG was at for much of his time here (which DDG hasn’t been at for a while), but since he got the chance when DDG was away he has done nothing wrong and should keep his place.
In general I don’t think he will ever be a flashy keeper or one to make out of this world saves, but I do think he is very technically proficient as a keeper, he does the basics very well, and he won’t make many mistakes and will be a very solid dependable keeper who organises the defence and communicates well.

Like VDS?
Don't get me wrong, he made some good saves, but VDS was never flashy. He just did everything to a high level and understood very well how to play his position.

VDS was the perfect keeper for us at the time he was here, calm and composed and a solid performer week in week out behind one of the best defences around.
DDG also perfect for us for most of his time here, never had the luxury of being behind a top defence imo, or even shielded by a top midfield for most of his time, so his ability to make out of this world saves with such regularity has won us so many points in the last decade.
He’s still far far better than Henderson at the things he’s good at, but Henderson is better at some things, and right now those attributes are the ones we most need to make up for our defences shortfalls.

Agree with all of this. Too many people see things as black or white, it's why we constantly see player x pitted against player y in a 'who is the best' when in reality, they have different attributes, sometimes completely different, and very little consideration is given for the circumstances they played in, their team mates etc.
I do think he's shown he's up to having a proper run though and ability aside, we need to consider that De Gea is much closer to needing to be replaced than Henderson is. Even if De Gea is the better keeper (which I feel he currently is), you have to question whether that gap is large enough (I don't think it is) to warrant sticking with DDG for a few years which would force you into losing Henderson.
I think its less about quite literally who is the better player at this exact moment and more about who will be our keeper in 5 years time? I'm not sure that we need Dea Gea more than Henderson either, I think we're better defensively than we're given credit for but still need to (and look set to) strengthen that CB partnership. So I don't think we'd need a top 3 in the world keeper, if Henderson has next season and shows he's not up to the task then I don't think we'll be much worse off anyway. The gap between Dan James playing on the right and Jadon Sancho or Varane (wishful) next to Maguire over Lindelof, is far greater than the gap between Henderson and Dave.

If he is outperforming DDG in training then he deserves to play until he messes up, but Im far from convinced by him. He has hardly been tested so far.

In terms of type of Keeper then yes very much in the VDS mould.....but he’s a long long way to go to be anywhere near VDS level and would be surprised if he gets there.
As someone else said, he has is stronger in certain aspects that DDG and those my be the attributes the team needs right now. Personally I don’t think he’ll every get the levels DDG got to, but who knows.

The sweeping today was far more reminiscent of Schmeichel than Van De Sar.

This is huge for us. I've been banging on about it since even when De Gea was in his prime. It was a glaring weakness in his game which often got overlooked.
Henderson being more decisive off his line not only gives our back four a lot more confidence, it allows them to push higher up the pitch.
