Seen many comments saying Woodward has resigned. He hasn't, he is going to step down at the end of 2021. He was set to leave at the end of the year but the ANNOUNCEMENT of his departure has been brought forward.

Why was it brought forward do you think?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That has literally nothing to do with what the OP is about
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are you talking about??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The OP is about when Woodward is stepping down. Why the announcement was brought forward has nothing to do with when he is stepping down. He is stepping down at the the end of 2021. If they announce that now or in 5 months makes no difference to his end date.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would he have been stepping down at the end of the year if this ESL had gone ahead?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes

As far as I am aware, the only proof we have that Ed always intended to step down at the end of the year, is what he and the club have said. Given that these are the same people, who last week, were still discussing Champion's League plans, whilst simultaneously plotting to launch their own competition, I think you might have need to give us the benefit of viewing these claims with a healthy amount of scepticism. Of course, they'd never lie to make themselves look better.
'This competition will save football' etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If thats the case why not resign immediately? Why wait 8 months? Or why not wait with the announcement if hes going to stay on 8 more months? Makes no sense unless that was always the plan.

No idea, I would imagine that being CEO means that there probably quite a few loose ends to tie up beforehand. Honestly I know as much as anyone else, but there is as much evidence that it's due to this, than there is that it was already planned.
Perhaps it was planned, and his aim was to get a senior position near Joel Glazer on the board of the Super League? No idea.
Honestly, couldn't care less as to the reasons, just glad he's leaving.

[Fabrizio Romano] Also Manchester United could leave the #SuperLeague soon. Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw were the spokesmen of the squad’s dissatisfaction against the #SuperLeague. That’s how it started and that’s why Ed Woodward decided to resign [at the end of 2021]. 🔴 #MUFC #ManUtd
No idea how much truth there is in that though, as obviously it's only a tweet

He was not leaving. The sound of 3 billion spread amongst these clubs, Woody was never going to leave.
He tried this nonsense and it has backfired. The next step now is to get these weasels the Glazers out of this club.

You're being naive Hulky.
He's stuck around long enough while fans have hated him. Why then leave as soon as you get into a super league?

I mean, as much as we've disliked Ed during his tenure, it's never been like this. It's not just United fans that have unanimously voiced their opinions, it's virtually the entirety of the football world.

The crux of the matter is that he hasn't resigned, he is still going to oversee your summer transfer business.
