are apparently winning all these trophies on merit alone.

But, but, but it`s nothing to do with money. Pull the other one, up until the lottery win, no trophies and best position 8th, mostly finishing in the bottom half or relegation positions. Since the lottery win, 11 out of 13 seasons in the top four, and 10 trophies and counting. It`s all down to Pep apparently. I would have liked to see Pep manage City 1993-2007.
Money is everything in the modern game. It has completely corrupted football, and skewed in the favour of very few clubs.
Next time a City fan tells you they are there on merit, look them in the eye, then have a good chuckle. Am I being to harsh on City, or do they deserve all these trophies on merit alone?
Just to disprove the fact that Man City

Fergie didn't run United on a shoe string and no one has claimed as such.
The point no is that Fergie spent what the club made. United earned it, which is different from having an oligarch or sheikh pump 300-400% of the value of the club into the club after buying it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Regarding United, Ferguson was spending on transfers around 30-40% over United’s entire value back in the late 80s/early 90s.
United didn’t earn that money. That money was given to him by the board as investment into the team.

Do you have proof of this?

I don't disagree, but you need an owner or a potenial buyer who has the desire and the reources to break the glass ceiling.
Remember it started as the Sky 2 - United and Arsenal. Chelsea smashed their way in and Liverpool were added to make up the numbers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you cant do it now in the smae way. Roman funded Chelsea which would breach FFP now, and City did initially before then boosting their revenues with world record sponsorship deals despite being the size Leicester are now.

3 sides of Old Trafford were rebuilt at the taxpayers expense. They also had a tragedy that they (the club) have monetized to the max whilst treating the survivors in a disgustingly shabby manner.
They put day trippers before local fans because they'd spend more in the club shop on their annual visit.
Don't make out United are some sort of footballing saints.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't make out like United are anything, they're far from angels. I only said what I said, which you should try responding to instead of putting words in my mouth and replying to that instead.
Many clubs have received help from the tax payer in some ways and I don't know what you're on about the tragedy.
None of these are at the level of City and the oil states. Clutching at straws.

Who were they kidding with those sponsorships too?

What's this 'world record sponsorship deal' you keep banging on about?
posted on 26/4/21
How much was United valued at in the late 80s?
How much were United spending on transfers at that time?
Go look it up.
United’s owners, in fact owners of the vast majority of clubs were putting their own money in to fund transfer spend. This idea that every penny spent was from money earned is a fallacy.
Investment has always happened. Anyone who comes out with the comment - this or that club has only ever spent what it has earned - is a liar.

Devonshire seems to think our £20m a year shirt and stadium deal is some sort of record.
