Leicester

Big win for them last night. Looks like they’ll be playing Champions League football next season which is great news.

After losing to West Ham it was looking like it may be getting away from them again but they have recovered well and now have a 7 point gap to 5th. In reality a couple more wins will likely see them get CL next season.

Brendan Rodgers has done a great job there and it annoys me that the “big 6" is still a thing as Leicester have been at least one of the best 6 sides in the league since he took over.

Good luck to them and I hope they see it out.

Would be nice to see West Ham follow them but I suspect after the last 2 back to back defeats that ship has now sailed.

City, Utd, Leicester and West Ham getting the top four would be a pleasant end to the season.

I can’t see anyone catching Leicester and Chelsea now.

....

Chelsea have a few tricky fixtures left. I can see the dips catching them. Leicester have us, Chelsea and Spurs so they can slip up again.

some of these tough fixtures are tough on paper but context is everything. united have just about qualified and their approach against liverpool on sunday will tell us everything about where their heads are at.

chelsea have what you would call a new manager in charge so they arent letting up at all. they actually dont play well at all but their manager has his players clued on and they dekiver a performance.

They have the squad to handle 2 matches a week.

Leicester are 8 clear of liverpool with a better goal difference. Unless Liverpool thump united they arent getting into the CL.

Chelsea have only conceded two goals in their last six games, and apparently that’s pretty representative of their performances. They just aren’t conceding chances.

Barring the mess against West Brom, they’ve been in fantastic form. I wouldn’t actually bet against them finishing above Leicester.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been busy keeping Pidier busy. Beaten by Fulham, knocked out of the CL, then couldn’t beat Leeds or Newcastle. Their back line looks a little better, but they just aren’t firing. I can’t see it. I wouldn’t actually be at all surprised if Everton finished above them.

with all the cb injuries liverpool have had it's strange that their biggest problem is not being able to score a second goal despite plenty of chances. a first goal some of the time.

In fact, looking at the table, I think we could lose all of our remaining league games and still finish top 4.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We need one more win to guarantee it I think.

2nd could be a bit more of a struggle of Leicester pick up form
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We need to make sure of no worse than 3rd, as there is a possibility of Arsenal and Chelsea winning their respective European competitions and if Chelsea aren't in top 4, i believe 4th place won miss out as countries are allowed no more than 5 entries to the Champions league.

Chances of that are very very slim. Would be surprised if we finish lower than 2nd now. The goal should be to get around 80 points.

You could make the point about Pep being poor in Europe considering the teams he's managed. Fergie used to receive the same criticism too. Doesn't stop them from being great managers.

Not saying Rodgers is on an even keel with them but he's a good manager despite the so far not so impressive record in Europe.

Conte too

I think the reason Brendan didn’t get Leicester further in Europe is because he ran out of fit players to be playing so many games. The injury crisis at Leicester didn’t get the headlines that it did at Liverpool, but it was still there. I think Tielemans is our only first choice outfield player who hasn’t had a lengthy spell out this season.

I think it’s testament to Leicester’s progression that they’ve managed to hang in there over a season. It’s usually squad depth that catches up with teams outside of THE six at the end of the season. Luckily for us we’ve had a few come back from injury at just the right time.

Anything could still happen in the race for Champions League. I’m encouraged by the fact that our tricky last three games are against teams we’ve beaten already this season, but previous form counts for nothing in the run in.

As has been said I hope Man Utd can do us a favour and knock Liverpool out of the chase as they are one team who are capable of winning every game. I will only become interested in catching United if we get to the point where we’ve qualified for the champions league and there is still a mathematical chance. It’s all about top four.
