Arteta and his mad decisions

I think it's got to a point with Arteta it's all about his ego. His mindset is I won't do the sane or most sensible thing I'll do something mad and if it comes off I will look great. There so many decisions that don't make sense.

Firstly has no one ever told him that Saka can play left back rather than just keep persisting with Xhaka at left back which isn't working. Another thing about him I don't like the way he just discards players. What has Cedric done to not be playing he's the best right back at the club which ain't saying much but he's not getting a look in.

Finally the most bizarre one of the lot Martinelli doesn't get a start against Everton oh so he must be getting a start on Thursday. Then Arteta walks in pins the teamsheet to the wall and I bet all the players looked at each other thinking what is this guy doing we haven't played a single match this season a false 9 and he decides to do it in this game.

I'd say even if he flukes the Europa league he's got to go the man just hasn't got a clue.

95th minute Arsenal double substitution Willian and Elneny on for Pepe and Smith-Rowe, with 15 seconds remaining??

Wild Chris H appearance, things getting bad under Arteta

I’m not sure what Arteta’s plan is. Early on in his Arsenal career you could see what he was trying to do. But since then, it’s all a bit clueless really. None more so than tonight. Why experiment in a big game?

Today was a very surprising selection from Arteta. It was strange. I always felt like Arteta had a plan too even if on some games it wasn't working.

But today screamed desperation in his tactics. I think questions need to be asked about Martinelli. Everyone says how well he trains. So the only reason why he doesn't play is because Arteta doesn't like him. I don't know why

Neither does anybody else, I’m beginning to think that he must be banging Arteta’s wife...

I don't mean to pile on here, but from an outside perspective that's two games in a row I've looked at your teamsheet and thought wtf. Why isn't be playing a back 5 with Saka as a LWB?

He’s winging it for sure, bizarre tactics in a game like that. Sort of thing Pep would do, but Pep can walk on water in football terms; Arteta dresses like him and initiates him but he’s not him, far from it. But, that penalty goal is a massive lifeline for arsenal and will probably be enough to have you turn the tie around at home. At 2-0 with 10 men Villarreal needed to turn the screw, make it 3 and its tie over - they facked it up.

Classic Emery. We are lucky he bottled it 2nd half. Any half decent team would have punished us.

Agree with the OP, even if we fluke Europa Arteta must go. I’d sack him today tbh. Someone like Rafa or Maureen will do until the end of the season

Thank feck Emery was their manager, god knows why he went defensive, he had us on the ropes at 2-0 in second half, looked like it was heading for a 3/4-0!

I wonder if the whole thing about us facing our former manager got into Artetas head. Seemed like he was trying to be too clever to show he’s a better manager than Emery. Can’t think of any manager who with a squad like ours would chose to play an entirely new system in such a huge game
