All-time ODI XI

Never posted on the cricket board before, but let’s put together the best ever ODI team...

Tendulkar
Gilchrist (WK)
Ponting
Kohli
De Villiers
Dhoni (C)
Yuvraj
Wasim
Starc
Garner
Muralitharan

Most of the batters pick themselves, unlike in Tests. The main omission is Viv Richards, but AB’s career strike rate is insane. The thing against AB is that he never won a major ODI title, but I think he just gets in regardless.

The likes of Rohit Sharma & Ben Stokes could well make it by the end of their careers. I almost included Stokes now but shaded it to Yuvraj, because at his peak he was even more destructive as a batter, plus his style of bowling is more suited to ODI cricket.

3/4 bowlers pick themselves, Starc is the only semi-controversial one but his bowling at the 2015 ODI World Cup was ridiculous.

Over to you...

Well done, and pretty typically, there is not a single mention of any other englishman in any other post.

I applaud you and totally agree with your line up which would wipe the floor with all these other teams.

Bairstow alone would probably manage that too.

England were never that good in ODI cricket except for the last 4-5 years when dead batting wickets have been prepared and its Odi cricket is played in T-20 style.

So we adapted?

Credit to England for their dramatic rise in Odi cricket in the last 4-5 years but primary reason for omission of English playerts in Best ever ODI XI of most people is because they not been that good.

Kevin Pietersen and Ben Stokes are two English potentials for all world XI.Pietersen cannot be included because of longevity but if Stokes continues winning single handedly for England, then soon he will be picked as well

Stokes could well be in come the end of his career, but so far I feel that he’s not done quite enough in terms of pure stats.

Plus I still remember the Carlos Braithwaite incident in the 16 Final (that was T20, but still).

Gary Sobers, Ian Botham and Derek Randall as all-rounders.
Derek Underwood to bowl and keep the run-rate down with Lillee, Thompson, Hall and Griffiths to terrorise the batsmen.
Greenidge and Richards to chase any total.
Obviously can't include Boycott.
Post match - "We lost on slower run rate Geoff".
Boycs - "What the xxxx is run-rate?"
