VAR. Run by clueless idiots!

How on earth can that stamp by Fleck not be deemed as a straight red.

The guy, in stepping over GLC, very clearly shortens his stride deliberately and lands studs on his head.

For the VAR ref to spend 10 seconds looking at it and deciding no wrong doing or refer it to the on field ref is nothing short of total incompetence.

If I performed such incompetence at my job i would not be in my job very long. Just as well some of these refs are not responsible for anything more serious than a football match.

When you compare the decision making to that of the West Ham red the other week vs Chelsea then it defies belief the inconsistency in decision making.

It just goes to show that VAR should be restricted to the non-subjective matters because i'd rather the on field ref got it wrong in the moment than some fool getting wrong having watched 10 replays.

Utterly useless!

Just watched it again on MOTD2, 100% intentional - he’s fouled GLC then stamped on him - he could’ve pulled out of that but he shortened his stride to do some damage. And, having known what he’d done he didn’t even check to see if Lo Celso was ok. The act of an utter coward and that needs to be punished retrospectively.

The frustration is that, as they’ve just said on MOTD2, the same VAR official who sent the ref to the screen because he couldn’t decide on the Balbuena incident made the decision on this today without asking the ref to review it himself.

We’ve all said it and my opinion remains the same; VAR is fine for objective decision making like offsides, but while ever it’s also an option for subjective decision making you’re still gonna get the same inconsistencies as pre VAR, partly because the standard of officiating is generally poor and partly because humans are fallible and will always make errors.

Agreed. Though we should also accept that we can disagree with a decision and it not be factually wrong.

This one will look a blatant red to most Spurs fans, but if you're Sheff United maybe not. You have to be convinced that it was a deliberate stamp, and like you say, you're never going to get a binary decision on stuff like that.

As long as football is a contact sport you're going to have that grey area, and that's fine, that's the only way it can be. Sometimes you'll feel the ref is too harsh, other times they'll let things go.. as long as they're not blatantly corrupt we should just get on with it.

Sod all this overanalysis of every decision and try to enjoy the game.

This is a blatant cynical foul in the mould of players like Pepe, with the difference that Pepe would turn around, laugh out loud and shout in the players face to get up and .

You honestly don't see these kind of VAR-mistakes in other big leagues so often as in the PL. Makes me wonder if you guys put the worst referees at the VAR table or they are all this incompetent...

Deliberate or accidental, Fleck has endangered the safety of an opponent and should have been sent off.

In this case though, it was as clear as day intentional, Fleck knows what he is doing and leaves his foot in deliberately, he could easily have avoided Gio`s head but chose not to.

As for VAR, as long as the clowns operating it are riddled with incompetence, bias and agendas, we will always see ridiculous decisions like today.

That VAR decision yesterday has to be the most shocking decision of the season. It was a very clear stamp on the face, and was certainly not accidental. There was a clear stamping down of the boot. How VAR made their rapid wrong decision is astonishing. Not even asking the ref to have a look on his monitor.

Then minutes later an offside decision that was not anywhere near clear cut, was immediately deemed as offside.

Two astonishingly bad decisions in the space of a minute or two.

VAR can work well, but you still need competent officials to make it work properly. Clearly that is not the case.

I agree with Sandy on this one....if the officials viewing VAR are idiots, then idiocy is what you get. Not VAR's fault.
The stamp on Lo Celso's face was obvious....you don't even need VAR to see it.
Red card!
In fact I'd have given a double red for that!
The Son off side was so marginal, his feet are not offside, his arm or his shadow maybe. What exactly is the wording of the offside rule?

Plaudits to Gareth Bale!!

Disgusting foul by Fleck.

I do not understand how the same VAR ref can see intent in the Balbuena last week and none in Flecks.

It just goes to show how weak these refs are. He made a mistake last week and then runs away from a far more obvious offence this week. Meanwhile the on field ref last week was called to the TV and should have taken one look and ruled it out, but because the VAR ref had referred it to him he's too weak to go against VAR.

Imagine when fans are back in the stands screaming at them.

Ive said it many times, VAR & Ref need to be mic'd up so we can all hear a discussion, like in rugby. Some of these decisions are subjective but if we can at least hear their thought process we can understand how they came to a decision.

As for offsides, they should simply change it to feet. You could see in the assessment of Son, they measure up to his arm but that whole process of measuring from the sleeve is inaccurate, esp. as Son had long sleeves on so the VAR is guessing where the sleeve starts and ends. Totally and utterly flawed. AT least with feet it is totally clear and there is no need to draw up to a part of the body, which just adds further inaccuracy.
