Who Do We Want: Europa League Final Edition

As per the title really, who do we fancy from Arsenal and Villarreal? Whilst I ultimately feel that both of them are far inferior to us, I do think Villarreal would be more dangerous to face.

Firstly they have a good manager. I get people will laugh at me saying that, but Emery (especially in this competition) is very tactically astute and could literally write a book on winning this tournament. I know he was hounded out of Arsenal but just look at how they've done since with Arteta. I think it tells you how good Unai is, that he managed to get them to within a few points of top 4 and a EL final with that garbage team, not to mention Mustafi at CB!

Secondly, they have some very good underrated players. The veteran Albiol is still a handy (but somewhat slow) CB and Pau Torres next to him is seriously good. We've been linked with Pau for a while, great left foot and can bring it out of defence with his technical qualities. Parejo is capable of hurting teams, so is Capoue and Trigueros. Upfront their star man Gerard Moreno has been banging them in for years whilst supported by the rapid Samuel Chukwueze. They would be no easy feat, however I believe we would be able to overcome them.

Give me Arsenal!!

I never like to play a domestic rival in a European final. It just raises the stakes and the associated anxiety levels. If we play Villarreal, then it's we win vs we lose. If we play Arsenal, it's we win vs we lose AND they lose vs they win. Makes the potential victory a bit sweeter but also the potential loss a lot more bitter.

Still, nowhere near the horrors we had to contemplate in the 2008 CL. At the semi-final stage I remember reasoning that we had a better chance of beating Liverpool in the final, but the eventuality of losing to them was so horrific to consider that I preferred Chelsea to come through and have a harder final.

Exercise is good for anxiety. You could sit on an exercise bike whilst watching and you wouldn't be so anxious.

RR, yeah I was the same regarding the CL. Though beating Liverpool under similar circumstances would have been unreal.

There’s not a better way to win a cup final than in a penalty shootout. Imagine if it had been against Liverpool, in the CL final, after Gerrard had slipped (than would have topped the actual one where he did).

I am signing out now guys as City fans have complained about my comment on another article. I know they want me banned so I am just going to take a pause.

Don’t think anyone actually did complain about you.

Totally. The risk/reward dynamic would have been as intense as anything. Even now, knowing it's hypothetical, reading your fantasy penalty shoot-out with Gerrard slipping, my brain couldn't help flipping to the opposite outcome and my guts clenched up!

Yeah it’s a sickening thought.

If I was United I'd possibly rather face Villareal than Arsenal. Emery has great success in this competition and his side are solid, but I just feel Arsenal have better individuals that are capable of winning a game in the likes of Aubameyang, Lacazette, Odegaard etc. Villareal have a solid side, but I just don't see a real stand out player where I think "he could be the difference".

Granted I do watch Arsenal and English football far more than I do Spanish football so.

I honestly have a bad feeling about both Arsenal and Villarreal.

Villareal is just a yellow Valencia. Look at how many ex-Valencia players are there right now

This is why I would personally prefer Villareal.
