Summer signings lack of impact

I know we have a lot of people who like to blame Ole for everything on this board. Probably his fault we've not had much sun in May yet either no doubt.

But just look at how much the summer window has cost us.

1. Donny. Let's not beat around the bush. It's been a disastrous signing. I actually feel sorry for the bloke. He's shown he's a decent player at Ajax but he's either not showing it during training or Ole never wanted him. Still feel like it's the latter contrary to the line put out by the club that Ole pleaded with him to join. He hasn't acted like a manager that was desperate for him to come has he?

2. Telles. Not been overly impressed with him one bit when he has played. Looks very suspect defensively. Luke Shaw having a blinding season has maybe made this one go under the radar a bit though.

3. Amad (summer signing that arrived in January). Honestly don't see why he wasnt just signed and sent on loan. He's barely had a chance. Has he really developed playing mainly under 23 football? He could be playing first team football like Pellestri is.

4. Pellestri. Can't say he's had no impact for us as he's not been here. A loan for him made sense. We might benefit from this one long term.

5. Cavani. The one signing that has probably been a hit. And yet even that one came with the question of why did we wait till deadline day. We essentially missed a full month of Cavani because of this. It isn't his fault of course. That's just down to Ed Woodward being his usual pathetic self.

Got to be among our worst transfer windows in a good while and we are still most likely going to finish 2nd and maybe win a European trophy. Just shows us what could have been with whatever money we had if it was spent more wisely.

City signed Ruben Dias. Just look at the impact he's had for them. This is why we want the Glazers and Woodward out. They just aren't competent at their jobs.

VDB is a headscratcher.

Total baller at Ajax, can't get a sniff at United and when he does is generally bang average.

Ole didn't want him, i'm sure of that. Someone will get a bargain this summer.

I think he's the sort of player who plays in a position that is rarely successful in the current EPL. He's not truly creative, like Fernandes, he's not box to box or particularly defensively minded. He chips in with a few goals & assists. Reminds me of Dele Alli in that he is clearly talented but you really wonder what role they have in a modern team. You certainly cannot picture him playing alongside Fernandes and Pogba in a midfield, or ousting either of them

When did we miss out of Mbappe because of a few million?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan Giggs has claimed that he told Manchester United to sign both Gabriel Jesus and Kylian Mbappe when they were worth just £5m.

The Welshman was assistant manager to Louis van Gaal for two seasons before leaving the club once Jose Mourinho took charge in 2016 and he suggested that United’s transfer policy was to blame for missing out on a lot of young talent

I highly doubt that one of the most highly rated youth players over the past decade or so was available for £5m. You don’t sell players with the potential for that little hence why he went for £130m when he was only 19 years old.

Our transfer policy was more of a mess and we clearly missed out on some young talent but that wasn’t to do with not paying the fees needed, more that the club at the time wanted more established big names.

Donny doesn’t fit. We have players in the positions he plays ahead of him and our style of play doesn’t suit him. Our players tend to be more individualistic in attack, whereas Donny is always looking for little one twos, getting himself into little pockets between players and playing quick release stuff. The game ends up bypassing him.

I think he’s a top player and I’d been a bit of an advocate for him long before he signed but I can’t see how his fortunes are going to change for us.

Telles has been decent I think. Cant ask for better cover at LB and if Shaw got injured, I think he’d do well with a proper run of games.

We spunked 40m on Amad plus Facundo. Sancho could have been bought for 60m more

Must £60m more 😀

Just because he doesn’t play him, doesn’t mean he didn’t want Donny. He hardly plays Telles either.

seems like you want to deflect Ole's negatives and put it on the club

Maguire - £80m for an above average defender

AWB - poor at attacking, liability positionally

James - not good enough

VDB - poor

That's hundreds of millions wasted. Klopp would build a great team with that sort of cash.

Rather than blame the club for everything, LVG, Jose and Ole need to take their fair share of blame.

The fact we still look an incoherent mess after 2 years means we probably need to move on from Ole soon.

Maguire is a good buy, overpriced - yes, but he improved our defense and not an injury prone.
AWB is decent, reliable option in the right wing. Granted his attacking play is lacking, but remember we don't have any proper RW to play with him either.
James was a free hit
VDB wasn't Ole's first choice last summer, Ed just saw him as a quick win to put some pressure off him after Sancho's transfer failure.

I agree we might need someone better than Ole, however he is doing a good job this season with the squad he's given.

Telles and VDB have been absolutely woeful. , nothing suggests to me they can be Utd player.

Diallo looks like pen for the future and Pellestri has apparently been good in Spain (but so was periera).
