Everton v Wolves match preview

Date: Wednesday 19th May
Kick off: 18.00
Venue: Goodison Park

On Wednesday Wolves travel to Liverpool to take on Everton in the penultimate game of the season. It will be the first game at Goodison Park this season with a home crowd, albeit with reduced numbers.

In the reverse fixture in January, Everton ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Alex Iwobi and Michael Keane, Wolves goal coming from Ruben Neves, the first goal that the midfielder had scored in old gold from inside the 6 yard box.
On that day Nuno had a threadbare squad to choose from with regular starters, Raul Jimenez, Jonny Otto, Willy Boly, Adama Traore and Daniel Podence all sidelined.
On this occasion Jimenez, Podence and Jonny will still be unavailable as will Pedro Neto.

With 56 points, Everton are currently in 8th place in the table. 4 places above Wolves who have 45 points

Everton come into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Sheffield United on Sunday whilst Wolves also lost their game 2-0 against Tottenham

Obscure fact: Carlo Ancelotti is the 4th most recently appointed manager in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo is the 4th longest serving.

The game will be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League

The news on Jimenez is actually very positive, he's cleared to start full contract training but will wear head protection for the rest of his career. They're going to hold off until pre season though before throwing him to matches. Really great news.

quite a bit of medical information on Express and Star, sounds very positive and hope it will all work out

Excellent news and very wise not to start until next season. Keeping my fingers crossed now that his mental state will be ok.

Here's to a better season come August and hopefully a few much needed players to come in. I also hope Nuno stays and gets the additional players he needs.

Assume Jimenez isn't going to the Olympics either which is a shame.

Oh and see we never bounced back after going behind. Meh.

Why risk him in that sort of competition? Better to have him fresh and ready for pre season matches.

I agree from our point of view. It is him it is a shame for but at the same time the more match ready he is the better for us, if he is cleared he is cleared, simple as that.

Looks like 12th place will be where we finish given the final day fixtures. Not terrible on paper but the eye test tells a different story and for me this was a great year to break the big six as other clubs are showing.

There's a good chance the Olympics won't go ahead from what we're hearing from Japan. I also suspect the reason they're holding him back from playing Sunday and planning his return in July is to prevent Mexico taking him away and distorting his pre season.
