Europa Conference League.

The highest we can finish is 7th, and if we do we will qualify for the inaugral Europa Conference League.

There are fans who would rather we miss out, while others are okay with it. There are pros and cons for both viewpoints.

The schedule is a definite negative. Given the Euros, Copa America and the Olympics, pre-season will be hampered - so two August qualifiers are not ideal at all. Then 6 group stage games.

A European Trophy is much needed at our club. Only having won 2 is an embarrassment for us, so any European trophy will be welcome.

It could affect the transfer strategy. With no European commitments, you would think the squad would be streamlined, which means money can be concentrated on fewer signings.

Youth development could also be impacted. The ECL will no doubt give a chance for youngsters to get game time. The likes of Azeez, Balogun, Cottrell, Moller, Lopez could all step up. However, the other side of the argument is loan spells could be more beneficial. It is the Willock v Saka debate. Would Willock have better been off with loans earlier in his career rather than staying, would Saka be in the position he is if he was sent to a League One side 2 years back.
Without ECL I would imagine more of the top rated youngsters would go on loan.

The development of Arteta would be benefitted by playing in the ECL. We have lost the majority of games following Europa games, this is clearly something we need to improve on. No Europe could benefit Arteta next season, it will be easier to manage the squad (if it is stream-lined).

Personally, I would rather we qualified. The more games the merrier.

If we just play youth and fringe players I don’t mind being in it. Europa, especially the group phases, have been great for developing the current crop of younger players, so not having a competition to give the youth minutes would be a shame. Other than that there’s no real benefit to being in it. Just hope we use no first team in it and our full focus is on the league, if not then I definitely would rather us not play in it.

I started a thread a while back on this subject but people didn’t think we had a chance of it (I think it’s 50-50 now).

In theory I am marginally in favour as a way of blooding the youngsters but in practice I am definitely against.
This is because “in theory” it should be the same with the League Cup, it should have no impact on our first team, however, in practice I think the League Cup DOES negatively impact our Premier League campaign. 😕

“ We won’t even win it which would be a new low of embarrassment for us.”

This.

Just feels like a pointless exercise for us at this moment in time.

Would be nice to get a win today and finish above Spurs, but would rather have a season out of Europe than have to play in the conference. If we do qualify for it then lets play the kids and not first team.
Vital that we get back i to CL next season.

Typical of UEFA to produce a competition that so many fans want their team to avoid...🤦‍♂️

Especially with Villareal and Roma in it. Would be Spursy if Maureen knocked them out of it. Or Arsenaly now I guess
