Isn't the best squad or isn't poverty?

Thought Ings was okay fitness wise? Tbf Konsa is versatile, he’s played full back I believe. He’s a weird one because he just looks much better than Ings. Though I guess Ings being left footed may play into Southgate’s thinking. Thought Keane may get called up due to his experience of playing under Southgate, and being a useful player in the air if we need to defend a lead.

Yeah I think Mings is just there because he has a left foot and Coady is there because he's good to have in the group

In terms of ability they're a long way away from being two of our best 4 centre backs

But none of that means every Liverpool English player is best suited for England, nor every Man City English player.

Look at the current World Champions. They didn't build around a club side. They built around Deschamps ideologies. That meant Giroud was key, even though he failed to score or threaten.

It is not about picking the best XI players you have, but the bext XI players for how you want the team to play. And Southgate has shown a lot of signs that he doesn't feel TAA is in that line of thinking at this stage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No but that's what you formulate your team around. I could understand if the English players at Liverpool and City weren't that good, but that's obviously not the case. TAA, Henderson, Foden, Sterling etc are some of our best players, better than the likes of Phillips, Ward-Prowse, Watkins etc. This is basically my point, identify your best players at the top clubs, which do happen to be at both Liverpool and City (hence why they win trophies) and then build your team around them.

Of course you have Kane as well, the best players are not just exclusively at both Liverpool and City, but most of them are. So the question has to be, how can you build your team around the best quality players at the teams who are winners as well as your best players at teams who aren't as successful, which would be Kane. So it would be how do you build your team around TAA, Stones, Henderson, Foden and Kane. Which other players can you accommodate that suit the way they play, because those are the players who will make a difference at both ends of the pitch.

What has been clearly displayed is there must be something wrong with what Southgate's system is if you cannot fit your best RB in your team. It's not like he offers nothing to the team overall either, as I have said (and I assume is a fairly popular opinion), he's the most talented player of the list of defenders that England have selected in the provisional squad.

Thanks, Edin.

Christopher, yeah and he’s obviously liked what he’s seen of Cody in the middle of a three.

We’ll see what the final squad looks like, but I think there’s a balanced thinking to Southgate’s squad selection for this Euros.

The England team doesn’t pick itself due to the varying talents of the players. But Southgate’s given himself enough options that will suit different set ups and opponents - that’s gonna be our best bet for success.

People thinking we can just go and play like one of England’s top club teams are daft. We’re going to have to be adaptable.

What do you mean by ‘good to have in the group’? Don’t mean to nitpick but just genuinely don’t know what you meant by that and why others wouldn’t fulfil that.

Largely agreed with others though I think the most unlucky to miss out are Ings, Tomori and Konsa.

Calvert Lewin is a player I’ve never been heavily impressed by. Although he did have a good goalscoring record for a sustained period, he has always struck me as a player who’s having a lucky run of goals/form. He had a really good run for like 10-12 games at start of this season and since end of November only scored 5 league goals.

Think he means with regard to his personality. Pretty sure Coady was mentioned as being a really popular among the England squad when he got his call up.

Spain in 2010 played in a very similar fashion to Barcelona,
======
Spain had the key men in the Barca system in their squad though.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
We now have TAA, Henderson, Foden, Stones and Walker from the Liverpool and City sides as well as potential CL winners in Chilwell and Mount. That there is 6 players straight away and the only one you probably don't play there is Walker.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So do we play the City way or Liverpool way?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Both City and Liverpool set up in very similar fashion, a 2-3-5 (Liverpool) or a 3-2-5 (City). The similarity obviously being with 5 players in the forward line.

City's wingers traditionally keep width, with 2 number 8's breaking forward from midfield into the half spaces. Liverpool's wingers provide penetrative inside runs on the full backs, whilst the full backs push high to retain the width.

My point being, even with the variations in each style of play, these players would not be exposed to something they are not used to playing in. The principles of how both City and Liverpool set up, from an attacking stand point, are not too dissimilar.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on. The clown of manager is championship standard at best.

City play with their fullbacks as inverted midfield players in the build up phase and in the pressing phase which creates a three in midfield with Rodri. Their two attacking midfield players position themselves in the half spaces to create numerical advantages on the wing. Their wingers staying wide to stretch the opposition.

At Liverpool we push our fullbacks much higher than City and our wingers are the ones who position themselves in the half spaces.

The English clown manager selects 11 players and hopes or prays one of the front players scores a goal.
I have never seen movement of play, third man runs or other clear patern of attack with this clown of manager. It is static play with no movement off the ball.
