Man management

In terms of football what do you see as good man management?

I've been reading about good man management on here and either I misunderstood the concept or others have, specifically with regards to Ole.

Anyway I just thought I'd ask to see what you good folk see as good man management generally. But also apply it to Ole and give examples, because to be brutally honest I don't see good practice.

The thing I don’t get is, We had to put up with a midfield of McFred for most of the season. Because apparently they protect the back 4. Yet when our best defender is out injured in our biggest game. He puts Pobga in there instead. Now I heard Fred might of had a slight knock and couldn’t play 90mins. But then surely you start him and give say 60 mins and then bring him off. Not the other way around. When has pobga ever worked in a two. Plus it left us with no fresh attacking threat on the bench to bring on. Played right into there hands.

I have to be honest and say I don't buy into Ole being a good man manager, BUT I am not one to stick to a position no matter what. I thought maybe I wasn't getting/understanding something hence my OP.

For me it goes beyond last night, even things Ole has said that make me think really? An example was Bruno being tired and ole saying but he wants to play. That's not man management is it? That's a player dictating no?
Pogbas ankle surgery and Ole being p'd off and talking about his people? Surely it was the right thing to decusion by Pogba and his people.

and what we are seeing with Rashy is simply torture if he is injured in the way some suggest.

I'd personally say that those things are sqaud management rather than man management.

Fine line I guess. But the two examples I gave of Bruno and Rashy is also about managing the individual, wouldn't you say?

The Pogba example is also about the individual and the problem of his ankle got sorted by the insistence of Pogbas team. Something Ole wasn't happy about same even some of us fans gave Pogba stick.

Further to that not giving individuals playing minutes and then having them come in due to injury is also bad squad but also individual or bad man management imo

Squad management has been the weakest part of Ole’s time at the club.

It's a real sticky point this one, with some/most, Daz.

I think in the cold light of day and without emotion you have to at least wonder what a maybe more experienced manager may have done with this squad and players.

I know some will point to Mourinho and LVG, and I do think huge credit goes to Ole for just stabilizing things for a couple of years, not least just bringing fans back online and giving a sort of hope.

Yep definitely an area he could improve on.

Hard to know really. Because we don’t know how this squad would have looked under a different manager. I do think Ole’s created problems for himself by getting rid of attacking players that can contribute. We have a stronger attack in the first eleven now, but the depth of the attack was stronger when Mourinho was here.

Though maybe the squad players would contribute more if they had a better coach and more opportunities. So it’s hard to know what they’re really capable of in a squad role. Donny is on paper a good footballer, but wasn’t as useful to us as Andreas and Lingard were last season.

Yeah I agree. Donny's been a strange one and I guess ultimately we will never know if it's Ole not playing/managing him right or if it's he's is not very good or just a case of bright lights big city

I think time will tell with him. I had concerns with him before we signed him due to his style of playing not really fitting with ours. But he’s been a lot worse than I expected. But then Ziyech has struggled since moving to the prem, and he looked far much better player at Ajax from what I’d seen, so it could just be the step up in quality between the leagues/adapting to a new environment.

Fred was absolute shiiiiiit in his first season. And whilst he still has his issues, he’s obviously become a much better player over the last two years.
