“Weve done as well as anyone could imagine”

This is what Solskjaer has said - he also said that he is “delighted" with the players. 😳

The man must have access to some highly potent drugs…🤔

The thing is, Olë is right. We HAVE done far better than anybody expected.

You only have to look at the comments and articles on this board from last Aug/Sept to realise that Ole is spot on.

No-one gave us a chance of second.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ole has reduced fan expectations so much, that finishing 12 points behind first, exiting the group stages of the champions league, and being beaten by the 7th best team in La Liga is seen as a good season.

and ole can learn.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really. It's nothing more then wishful thinking. He didn't learn from last season's europa tie with Sevilla did he? Almost the same mistakes this time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps he will. Once bitten twice shy. I have to say Emery got it bang on, but Emery, outside of the prem nonsense has proven himself very astute and has won that competition 4 or 5 times now. He’s a top tactician. I would like to hope ole will learn a lesson from it, hey may, or may not. I don’t know your background, but sometimes I’m taking jobs that provide technical and management knowledge take a while to get your head around properly. I think 2nd buys ole time to at least see what he can do next season.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're such a positive guy Baz, it must hurt.

The problem is Ole made it easy for Emery by not doing anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes and it been pointed out to him a few times in the media which I’m sure he’s not blind too. I’d hope he’d take it onboard..

The thing is, we should have qualified form the group after the 4th game. Ole made a big mistake in rotating rather than seeing off the job. It was a bad move.

I don't think that it is seen as a good season. Perhaps an ok season.

The CL elimination was daft. He shouldn't have rotated until we had qualified. But the European campaign after that was good, with the exception of the final.

And finishing 12 points behind the league winners is better than we have managed in I think 5 of the previous 6 seasons. So whilst we would rather be closer, it is progress.

His explanation was that he thought that the players that were already on the pitch gave him the best chance of success.

Having seen how bad Rashford was, I can't agree with that. I'd personally have been happy to see James and/or Amad come on. And probably VDB for Pogba too. Rashford should have been subbed after 70 minutes or so and it wasn't at all fair on Greenwood that he came off, as he'd certainly done more in the game than Rashford.

Hopefully. Is is obviously learning on the job to some extent, but he will have to make some changes next season. It will be interesting to see how we perform next season with fans back in the stadium. There will be a demand for more attacking football and it will be interesting to see how the manager and players respond.

This thread is painful to read. Some of you sound like parents talking about their stupidest child.

Ole was in charge for two and half years. Even the top class coaches gets about three seasons at a top club. Ole should have learned everything there is to learn about the squad by now. There is no excuse for him to just sit there looking clueless for 100 mins while the game is slipping away from him, not after two and a half years at the job.

Next season should be make or break for him. He must deliver trophies or atleast properly challenge for big titles. This illusions of “progress” should no longer cut it.

Fair analysis from ESPN. Some fans are far too blinded by sentiment and romance, but the reality is, we have an amateur management and coaching staff not even Sheff Utd or West Brom would employ. All mates or ex Utd from coaching to board level, not employed because of their skills and achievement, but because they either know someone within the club, or played for the club. Broken from top to bottom.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysis on that video spot on. We made some progress points vise, but didn’t make any progress as a team. We have no identity, we are poor defensively and cannot defend set pieces.

Ole had two half years to work on the team, but we are one of most poorly coached teams in the division
