'Champions of mediocrity'

Was going to put this as a comment on one of the two articles below - but they've sort of turned into biatchfests so I thought I might as well make it it's own article.

But anyway, I have probably been trading insults with the likes of RooneytheGOAT, W&R, Ron, UWW, Stretty, Hippo (wherever they are now) and a few other about this 'mediocrity' thing for a while on here now. That's not the intention here - rather I want to try and explain a mentality that you guys don't quite seem to understand.

I started supporting this club almost 30 years ago now - through that time it has helped me form an unbreakable bond with my father, some lifelong friendships, and given me some of the best days and nights of my life - and not all of those days were after winning trophies (or even winning games).

In other words, I love it when this club wins stuff, but the camaraderie and the sense of belonging that comes with following a football club means far more to me than any trophy we ever have or ever will win. United fans are not the only ones who feel this way - there are literally 100s of teams playing in lower leagues who have never won squat. Why on Earth do you think people follow them? The main reason I hate the Glazers, more so than the fact they are hampering our success, is because their intention is to jeopardise that.

People have different reasons for supporting this club. Evidently yours is that you have felt some personal sense of achievement in supporting a team that is successful. And that's fine, I don't have a problem with that. I won't pretend I haven't enjoyed the success that's come with attracting a global fanbase. But you should probably accept that there are a lot of people who just do not share the principles you do.

So am I more accepting of 'mediocrity' than you? Yeah, probably. In the sense that I don't think winning trophies is as important to me as it is to you from a personal perspective. I love it when we win and I hate it when we lose, but i will not jeer at the stadium or insult a man on social media who has done more for this club than you or I can dream of. Sorry if you don't like it, but it is what it is. I think Ole has his limitations and I quite honestly wouldn't be the least bit bothered if we decided to replace him tomorrow (I reckon a lot of the people you brand as 'Ole in' probably feel the same way). But if you expect me to actively try and hound him out - I just won't. If you want to call that accepting mediocrity then so be it.

I fully expect that you guys will read the above and view it as a load of nonsense - I don't really care. Just maybe try and open your mind a little more instead of repetitively demonstrating such hysteria on here day in day out.

Lurker’s a Glazer shill, he never makes sense regarding them.

I think the problem is that you and the rest of the diddums, who I strongly suspect are all overseas post '93 'fans' don't want to support a team thats not the best. It's a narcissistic trait.

I dread to think what would happen if we lost a final against Sheffield Wednesday.

Tbf Potter is a better coach than Ole

To be determined. He may end up being no better at all. It is far easier managing a club like Brighton than it is a club like United. Or he may end up being another Klopp.

so basically, United is just an excuse for you to get pOssed up with your mates and if a football game happens to distract you for a few seconds while you are out of the house, then that is great.

why call yourself a united "fan" if you don't even care about the team winning?
