------------------Pickford
--Trippier-- Maguire--Stones-- Coady--Shaw
------------------------TAA--------------------------
--------Phillips--- Henderson ---Rice
----------------------Kane

TAA as a holding/defensive midfielder?

What the hell are you smoking. That will really play to his strengths
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha. He's got no awareness of defensive positioning
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is worse at it than AWB and that is me being kind.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
except unlike AWB hes caught out of position because of the system and formation and whats expected of him

whenever hes had to be more defensive like vs psg and city even when he was 18/19 hes shown he can have top defensive games in big games vs players like Neymar and Sane.

People give him far too much stick defensively, sometimes hes lazy and switches off but hes 21?22?

People think Reece James was 2nd motm behind Kante in the final, go watch the first opening 20 odd minutes again and see how many times Sterlings in behind him, route one from Ederson and he was in if not for a poor touch itd have been 1-0.

But he doesnt get the same kind of scrutiny trent does.

I have more faith in him than I do chucking deano in at the deep end

.........

Whilst Hendo playing for England shows how bad our goalkeeper depth is, you are not chucking him in at any deep end. He plays in goal for Manchester United not Colchester United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the deep end in terms of international football - you're taking a guy who has never even started a joke friendly against San Marino and starting him at the euros. Who knows how he'll perform for England. It's an unnecessary risk

.....

There are two friendlies coming up.

There’s more chance of Trent Alexander-Arnold starting every game than there is Southgate dropping his number one for a keeper that has never started a game for England.

That isn’t my problem. If you don’t expect your defenders to be able to defend don’t be surprised when they can’t.

You would think. No idea why Christopher is getting upset over this. We see idiotic line ups on a regular basis on here.

_________Pickford
__Walker_Maguire_Stones
Tripper__Rice_Phillips_Chilwell
__Rashford_Kane_Sterling

Will probably be Southgates starting 11.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

3 CBs across the back, 2 DMs, plus 2 wingbacks patrolling the flanks in the less demanding games.

Or a traditional back 4 , with 3 lumps across midfield, as soon as we come up against anyone decent.

As always with Gareth, you can bet your house on England fielding 7 defensive-minded players in every Starting XI.

From that squad the side I'd pick on form would be;

Henderson
Alexander-Arnold | Maguire | Mings | Shaw
Mount | Rice | Foden
Sancho | Kane | Grealish

But we'll get;

Pickford
Walker | Maguire | Stones | Shaw
Mount | Rice
Sterling | Grealish | Rashford
Kane

Given other players' form, Rashford doesn't start? Or does he?
