Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez grabbed second-
half goals as Liverpool finally ground down ten-
man Everton in an enthralling and controversial
derby.
Jack Rodwell was harshly sent off after 23 minutes for what referee Martin Atkinson deemed to be serious foul play as he lunged in to tackle Suarez.
Liverpool then spurned the chance to lead when
Dirk Kuyt's penalty was brilliantly saved by Tim
Howard. But Carroll smashed in the opener from ten yards and Suarez slotted a second.
Everton battled superbly in the stifling sunshine to hold out until 20 minutes left, when Carroll fired the visitors ahead following a fine overlapping run and cross from Jose Enrique.
And Suarez sealed the victory when he showed
great persistence to slide the ball past Howard after a defensive lapse. Everton had started promisingly but Rodwell's straight red card all but ended their chances of securing victory in the 185th league meeting between the two sides.
Tim Cahill was denied by a fine save with the scores at 0-0 and Louis Saha went close with a fizzing strike with the hosts trailing 1-0. But Liverpool's patience was finally rewarded and
an away win result seemed inevitable from the
moment Carroll hit his first Premier League goal of
the season.

I was hoping Stevie would come on for Adam much earlier because of our 1 man advantage, KK duly obliged and after that we looked a much better side
