Ronaldo the freak

Just seen that Ronaldo managed to run 60 metres in 7 seconds against Spain. The man is a freak. 36 years old and still capable of such speed.

To put it into perspective, the world record is 6.34 seconds and is held by Christian Coleman, who was 22 when he acheived his record.

If I did that I think my calves would disintegrate. I'm only 33

Not just Ronaldo although he’s a great example. I think there’s a trend throughout Europe of players in the early-mid thirties and beyond performing at a world class level, more than there were 10-15 years ago, where even the best players when they reached that stage of their career tended to be more squad players or showing signs of clear decline.

Ronaldo, Messi, Lewa, Benz, Ibra (this guy’s 40 this year), Aspas, Cavani, Vardy, Dzeko just for strikers alone still dominate scoring charts. Or maybe away from strikers, players like Modric Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva and Fernandinho still going so strong at the highest level. I don’t know if the data backs it up but to the casual eye it seems more than in previous football generations

Freak is a daft word to use to describe him/his performance. Not really a word to admire such a performance. Every young footballer should set out to apply themselves like him

If you don’t have the brains to expand the sentence, then maybe it does sound daft.

He means freak of nature I’d imagine.

I could be wrong but perhaps it's to do with the more militant training regimes they have to follow and the fact that if they were eating pies and drinking booze everyday like they used to, then they wouldn't be able to compete at the highest level anymore..
Players taking care of themselves more as opposed to way back when, when the rules were a lot more relaxed.

And Giggsy!

I do agree, I think the idea of signing a 35 year old is less of an issue than it used to be due to the extreme levels of dedication, professionalism, diets, technology and science available these days.
