Jol, Poch, Fonseca...

Guess which manager had won the most trophies before they took over?

Any new manager gets my backing. I'm past the point of being bitter. We finished 7th, European conference league. Fans should get a grip.

This is where we are. I want to see some good football and new CBs. I'll hold on criticisms of new regime until then.

Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Paulo Fonseca will be announced as the new Tottenham manager in the middle of next week. Reports emerged on Wednesday evening that Fonseca had emerged as the front runner for the Spurs job. It comes after talks for Antonio Conte broke down.

Fonseca, 48, was replaced by Jose Mourinho at Roma earlier this summer, after failing to better last season’s finish of fifth in Serie A. Like Spurs, Roma sit seventh but their failure was largely down to an incredible amount of injuries. He did guide Roma to the Europa League semi-finals.

Now, out of work and looking for a new job, Fonseca is on the verge of joining Spurs. He is on his way to London for talks. Incoming sporting director Fabio Paratici is a big fan and Fonseca will be announced in the middle of next week, on a three-year deal.

Fonseca has had a tricky time at Roma. While he has won more than half of his games in charge – 53 of 102 – he fell below the level of expectation. But injuries and a revolving transfer door prevented him from doing that. At a slightly more consistent Spurs, he might have the opportunity to build a project.

His time at Shakhtar Donetsk should really encourage Spurs fans. 103 wins from 139 games, and three titles in three seasons is impressive. While he might not be the name Spurs want, they should be excited at his arrival.

If we manage to get in some decent players am sure he will do just fine. You would think Fonseca just landed from the moon and never seen a football they way some fans are going. And true, what had Poch won?potter.. yeah pretty football. I get it..fighting relegation. Am sure he could do a job to with better players.
Zidane before Real Madrid.? Am sure our fans would have kicked up a stink if we tried appointing him years ago.
So why not Fonseca!!
If we are expecting a stellar manager then they want players who can deliver trophies. Guess what, they either don’t want to come or faacked off somewhere else.
Fonseca got my backing all day. COYS!!

It's sad what it's come to but Jose appointment set us back. Our squad last season was very strong. We had a back up striker that was top scorer in his league. We signed a top left back, Ndombele and Lo Celso fit. Bergwijn with a season under his belt. BALE returned.

Not many felt Jose wasn't backed last season...even the media when we were top was excited.

So what went wrong? Did Enic take over management of football mid-season? Jose let us down and now we need to rebuild. It's going to be hard especially as our poor performance means our star striker wants to leave. End of an era for me.

Any manager that was left with a squad including Sissoko, Aurier, Sanchez, Dier, Winks and Doherty, has not been backed properly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They should all have been bench players and subs. Some here were happy with Doherty, the second most creative RWB in the prem.

Ok trying to see this from Levy's POV. There have been reports that he wants King and Mason involved in the coaching set up. This seems plausible so maybe Fonseca or the new man has to agree to these terms.

Whether both are any good is up for debate but it feels like Levy wants to help these guys develope. Fairplay but there are other lesser clubs were they can learn their trade too.

Yday I read a few snippets of Levy wanting Skipp and Sess to be involved in the squad/team too. Again fair enough but they have to prove they are good enough for the prem. Skipp played a blinder last season but the jury is still out whether he is prem ready. Same for Sess as well.

It feel like Levy wants to focus to be on young players which I am not against as they tend to be more hungry and fight for the cause so to speak more than your Sissoko's, Winks and Diers of this world but he has to bring in a few experience players to provide a good balance. I hope Paratici is able to weed the deadwood out and bring in ample replacements.

Again too many if and buts and knowing Spurs it only leads to more dissapointment in the long run.

Will wait to see what unfolds between now and the start of the season to see where we are and where we are possibly going before I start cutting my wrists lol

This is something I would have felt 10 ten years ago but I have been there before and in the past has lead to dissapointment. Again gonna wait for official announcements before getting even getting remotely excited. COYS

This....Jose left a shambles, underutilised the squad and played The wrong defensive combos...game after game. Brought on Sissoko when we had Bale, Bergwijn, Lo Celso, Vinicius, Alli...threw away 23 points from leading positions yet somehow....this is all owners faults.

Levy is an annoying git but last seasons performance was way below par and Jose was to blame. If we had finished in top 4. Kane wouldn't be leaving and we would be selling deadwood. And certain fans would be subdued. Such is life

I would agree with you if half of the anger on this forum wasn't aimed at Fonsecas lack of quality according to some.

But it is....
———

What, do you don’t agree re Levy and the board? You’re happy with their performance?

And - again - you have to be realistic. Park the ‘back him don’t back him’ thing to one side and look at it objectively. He is a journeyman manager, 11 clubs in 15 years, sacked from his higher profile jobs (Porto/Roma). It is not unreasonable for a fan to suggest that he lacks the quality we need.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a better question..Levy has been carp at football decisions. This doesn't blind me from the fact I see progress with a DoF stepping in. The manager we appoint is the level we are at. So I'm not surprised this is who we might appoint. I even posted an article some weeks ago about Fonseca or Sarri.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chelsea finished 10th and went and appointed Conte, Leicester were bottom half and got Rodgers. How we did last season is irrelevant, if you say “oh we had a bad season so we need to accept we’re crap and make a bang average appointment that suits our new status” then that is pathetic and shows no ambition to remedy the poor decisions that lead to that crap season in the first place. We have been a CL club for half this decade, we have elite facilities, the board claim they want us back in the CL and playing good football, we stumbled last term but stop sugar coating the fact that we could and should be aiming higher than Paulo Fonseca.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This. Pointless even bothering to be honest, it’s a rinse and repeat merry go round. No other fans accept mediocrity other than Spurs fans.

I want to see which players we sign and if we strengthen at the back which was the major weakness. I'm giving this regime the summer window to get me optimistic until then I'm not going to be trying to make anything toxic.

3 points is what matters most. No one talks about the suits when they are winning.

Until we have a German system of 51% fan ownership nothing will change. Absolutely nothing, so sadly have to focus on the positives. Levy isn't going anywhere. If you want...don't buy your season ticket, turn off the TV and if you can locate Levys house..pay him a visit.

Till then I'll support the team, review the academy and hope Fonseca proves many wrong. If he fails..he fails...we move on. But I don't see the point in contributing to his failure by being a Conte.

Its a good point we do have ourselves to blame for accepting absolutely no say in how our clubs are run for so long and continuing to pay these obscene prices.
Hopefully that is changing albeit slowly or as I suspect the horse has bolted the stadium and we are left with a NFL/Boxing/Concert venue/Football entity that doesnt really give 2 sh*ts about fan nostalgia for the Spurs arm of the franchise.
