We're In For Ben White

According to Ornstein. He would be the eleventh centre back that we have signed since 2014. Can't say I've watched him, but it is thought that he won't come cheap by any stretch, especially as a home grown international. Leeds fans, who had him last season, think he's a special talent. He is considered versatile, even capable of playing in central midfield (and defensive midfield), and FIFA has him with an incredible potential of +11 to 87.

What this means for Saliba is disappointing. I have to say I thought we'd signed Varane. His talent is self-evident, world class and was an extraordinary coup for our club. I hold hope that it's part of Arteta's use of youth, in general. With the exception of Saka, he appears to be following the Pep style of handling youth as shown with Foden. It may be the right approach, but it certainly is frustrating for Arsenal fans used to seeing the likes of sixteen year old Cesc, Theo and Jack running around for us.

I think, most likely, this is the worst news for the likes of Holding. He could have been an excellent centre back, but for injury, and he adds a lot of character to the side, but his limits are fairly obvious. He's not the type of passing, technical centre back that is most conducive to playing out from the back. Given our pursuit of Onana and acquisitions of Pablo Mari and Gabriel (his passing last season was poor, but was excellent in France), that seems to be a key priority for the manager.

I desperately hope this signing, in our best stacked area of the pitch, does not impact improvements to literally every other position.

Welcome to Aston Villa, Ben White.

Absolute car crash of a club if this is true. We had the 3rd best defence last season in the PL.

Our issues stem from MF onwards.
The only player from Brighton we should be looking at is Bissouma.

Bissouma plus an AM would be a good transfer window. Obviously is Xhaka leaves he needs to be replaced (Neves).

The prem is becoming ridiculous. Paying 30-40M for championship/ prem relegation teams.

Wouldn't happen in any other league
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember when Liverpool signed a championship/relegated team Newcastle and he went on to be too midfielder, winning CL and PL?

Calm your tiits down
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If Chambers was playing for Brighton or similar type of teams he would be in the England line up and the press would be hyping him up also because he fits a certain demographic.

It's because he plays for arsenal, he is disregarded

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Chambers was fit and playing regularly, he'd be in contention. The fact is he's injury prone and only has a dozen or appearances this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would rather play Chambers than waste a ridiculous
£50M on facking Ben White

I don't disagree Skins, but that kind of short terminism can come back to bite you. Imagine if, for argument's sake, we had an injury free Wilshere still playing for us.

I think Arteta doesn't rate Saliba on a personal level. I think he sees him as part of the same mindset as the likes of Guendouzi and Özil, which he has tried hard to remove from the club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but imagine if we’d been “patient” with Saka and drip fed him games or loan spells up to now. We wouldn’t know the player we have on our hands (and we’d probably have been relegated lol). It needs to be managed on a case by case basis. Some kids like Rooney or Cesc are more than ready by 17-18.

Arteta is playing a dangerous game only picking players he “likes” (for want of a better word) on a personal level. Eventually the manager becomes the easier option to get rid of.

I still don't disagree with any of what you said. It's frustrating.

Good idea. Then Arteta can go back to City and run the team whilst Pep reverts back to putting out the cones.

No one with half a brain ever dismissed what Pep does.

That would make too much sense for a club like Arsenal. Nah, we should just let Arteta sell/ruin/exile all our talented youngsters instead.
