Denmark vs Finland

Something we all know, but can forget.
Football is great, life is better.
One chance at it, not long either, then
Oblivion. Have a great summer everyone.
You all feel like mates now, so as big ears said
Live long and prosper.

was running 10km at a decent pace (in ~ 45 mins) 2 days before the op

many many ppl who are athletic even, have unknown heart conditions, that can do them in

everyone should get an echocardiogram at some point to make sure

This

I am certain Eriksen will make a return, maybe not the tournament but the game nonetheless.

Daley Blind had an ICD implant fitted and made a return to footy earlier this year after collapsing on the pitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's odd that. I was told with my ICD I could never play competitive sport again. Maybe they have advanced in the 7 years since I got mine.

You played footy to a decent level then?

Sadly not. Was scouted as a 10yr old. Parents moved, didn't play for a couple of years, started up again and mashed my knee and my sartorius muscle falling off my bike in the ice, so that was the end of it.

Played pub football for a bit in my late 20's and was about to get back in to it.

Their reasoning was that if the battery gets damaged, or that cable gets pulled out, it will only get picked up on my 6 month check ups, by then it could be too late. As such, no competative sports.

Agree, it’s far more common than people think.

Unfortunately, you try calling the NHS and asking for an echo “just to be safe”.

I can imgaine someone like Blind would get more regular check ups than 6 months.

Amazing how he made a comeback but would suspect he wouldn't be the same or play with the same intensity. I think just being alive would be enough for me, I would give up the game, wouldn't risk it.

Possibly, but it's a full general anesthetic op to fit it all. Would be a right pain if it got damaged a lot. They must have improved them. I guess I'll find out next year when I get a new one.

you don't know what you've got 'til its goneit's

Scary that a high level daily trainer like Erickson can keel over unexpectabily but Jimmy Scaffolder, 2 bacon rolls and avstrong overlybsweer tea everyday seems uncorruptable...

if he had ventricular fibrillation and he had CPR + defibrillating outside of a hospital setting...he did v well to survive tbh

4% is what I was told when I came round after being down for 12 minutes with what I assume is the same as Eriksen. The paramedics thought they were turning up to stick me in a bag the chance is so low after that time.

Now 90%+ with my difib fitted. A mate of mine wasn't so lucky around a year earlier.

Late 20's to early 30's is when it usually strikes if it is going to, which matches most of the cases.

That is three ex Ajax youth players this has happened to now. Blind, Eriksen and Nouri.

Joe Average doesn't put his body under the same level of strain, stress and pressure that a top level athlete does. Top athletes train to push their heart to almost breaking point on a regular basis in pursuit of fitness.

The internal wear and tear a normal person suffers over a lifetime are probably accelerated in a top athlete, we are also forgetting to factor in genetics and luck.
