Why Bissouma

Is Yves Bissouma really the one to pin hopes on being signed. Whilst I don't believe national competitions should be the sole reason not to sign a player, it is a little worrying that if we signed him specifically, we'd lose two first choice players for a few weeks midway through the season. One per position, where there is one, is understandable in my mind but two? As well as the back up in Elneny?

This is why I've not been getting excited about Bissouma but maybe I'm missing something...

Have you ever seen him play? Serious question

He’s everything we need in midfield and more. Performed better than Partey in our home game against them at the end of last season and every pundit has been singing his praises for a year. Is available for a decent price (sub 40m for a 24 year old with a very high ceiling), and he wants to come to Arsenal.

We’re also selling one of our longest standing midfielders in Xhaka, who plays in his exact position. Bissouma would be the perfect replacement having years of PL experience already.

In summary there is no one better that is available.

Make sense now?

You make it sound like he's literally the only person we could bring in. I'm not saying he can't do all those things; I'm asking where possible disruption fits into the club's thinking and therefore what alternatives exist.

I would hope a club like ours can afford losing our first choice CM pairing for a month and still get results. The positives FAR FAR outweigh the negatives. Bissouma ticks every box in what we need as a DM and the knock on effect would be that we can play more expansive football without worrying about getting hit on the counter with a slow Xhaka screening the defense.

Yes there are other options...but I cant think of any other AVAILABLE options who come with his skillset, are young, experienced in the prem (cannot underestimate this) and available for purchase at a reasonable price.

FYI the players going to AFCON next Jan will only miss 2 PL games. One is the NLD but as stated elsewhere in this article, if we can't perform because we're missing 1-2 starters then we have bigger issues to worry about!

Man City, Wolves and Chelsea also could be missed as countries can call up players a week before and if they go far they will not be straight back.

Fair enough - that’s interesting. Didn’t know that. Still need to focus on buying the best players available to us. We can cross the AFCON bridge when we get to it.
