Trouble with that is were we to win in the next round against weaker opponents we’d still face the winner of that group in the quarter finals.

The draw can obviously help with how far you get, but if England harbour any ambitions of winning the tournament they have to beat a good side. Doesn’t really matter too much what rounds they are in.

We’ll just go out with a whimper, it’s what we do in this tournament. We are better at the world cup.

That's fair enough.

Having said that you may fair better against better opposition. Set up correctly and you could be very dangerous against teams that would come out and play.

Setting up correctly is part of the problem.

Yes. Indeed.

England have very good players in the forward positions but still no way of utilising them as well as you can. I'd probably play Rashford if I were Southgate as he will run at people with pace. England have seemed a bit one paced so far. No one would care though I suppose if you continued to keep clean sheets.

Not sure what's best for you next round really. Portugal perhaps if you can use your wide players well?

Problem is Rashford’s form. Even with the right set up, if your star men can’t impact matches you are facked. Look at Wales actually. Bale done well against Turkey, but he’s clearly not the same player he used to be and Wales have suffered against the two stronger teams in the group as a result.

Yes. That's true. Bale has been on the periphery in two games. He'd be better deeper IMO now. He was pretty much up front today.

Yes, Portugal could well go out. Think it could well be Germany for you which would be a 50/50 I think. I suppose it could be France too if Portugal sneak a draw against them.

I wouldn’t mind playing Germany for the occasion, and it’s at Wembley. But they’ve looked much better than I expected them to, their record at Wembley is ridiculous and I’m not sure I can take losing to them in a tournament again.

Beat them last time you played them at the Euros.

Yeah it was the worst Germany team to play in a tournament. No such luck this time.

They reached the World Cup Final two years later too! Germany always seem to have something about them it seems. I think you'd have every chance against them.
