Discussing it with a work colleague who is a fellow Derby supporter. I think Rooney may need to come out of retirement to be an option and Shay Given possibly too as our third choice GK.

The way I see it is, we can't possibly recruit until we know for absolute certain which division we'll be plying our trade in. If we're down (which in the grand scheme of things is more unlikely than likely) those that would join our club on the appeal of Wayne Rooney will no longer come (e.g Menghi + 4 other loan options from Man Utd. I can't see anything else happening)

Disappointed but not surprised would be the overall view of Ibe leaving from fans. Wayne did say there was a disciplinary issue before Ibe highlighted his psychological issues.

We're low on numbers, we're also low on players that have disappointed ( with Forsyth the only one of two remaining if you consider Lawrence's hit/miss performance ratio.) Depending on our wage budget it's a question of who we can recruit.

I expect the pool of free agents to be bigger, It'll be a case of who is willing to join us, at what cost. We're most likely to sign as the transfer window shuts - so depending on the current rules being we can sign outside the window free agents, chances are it might be late August/September before we see any activity.

it looks like we can't even compete with Peterborough and Coventry on wages.

free agents might be available, but reading between the lines the cap the EFL are imposing on us is somewhere around League 2 level, so League 1 clubs are going to have pick of them ahead of us.

What a shambles.

If we survive to play in the Championship this season, what's the odds Marriott will score against us?

Minimum 2 goals, home and away.

Interesting to see Curtis training with the team yesterday. Also there were Max Bird, Nathan Byrne, CKR,Shinnie, Roos, Sibley (looking like he'd put some size on), Lee Buchanan, Jack Stretton and Louie Watson. Apparently David Marshall, Kamil Jozwiak, Jason Knight and Tom Lawrence have been given extra time off, having been on international duty.
So, no Waghorn or Wisdom.....hope we have some aces up our sleeve...

No Terry, no aces and the EFL is dealing our hand from the bottom of the deck.

As Clarke has gone back to Brighton, Davies is our only experienced central defender. It is now our weakest position, just hope we can pick up a couple of gems from the out of contract pool. A new Macfarland or Stimac would do nicely.

Tom Lawrence wasn't in the Wales squad for the Euros (unless I'm mistaken) so why was he excluded from pre-season?

I still don't know why anybody thinks we're going to sign any sought after free agents.

We were not allowed to take up a legally binding contract option for an existing player, who instead went to a club who were in league one last season, with no form of income due to Covid but could still offer a better deal than we could.

I have a feeling this is even why some of the U23s were released, couldn't budget for them with the restrictions in place, probably also why Ibe has been released, to try and free up even a tiny amount (although I would not have expected him to play anyway, he's done, he'll be stacking shelves this time next year)

As long as we're not dancing to the EFL's tune we can't do a thing, and that's the point they're trying to make.
