essentially Barcelona signed him because Newells couldn't afford to pay for his monthly drugs and then manufactured him with a substance banned by FIFA since 1989 without a medical waiver.
Him being diagnosed with GHD allowed him to have this waiver. It is also medically accepted that treatment of GHD requires daily injections of recombinant human growth hormone (rHGH), suggesting he is still using them and has never stopped, something both he and Barcelona have always refused to comment on.

why was this allowed to happen? why haven't other players been genetically modified like this? why aren't all short fellas with a good touch pumped full of roids so they can compete with normal physique men?
I have always found it weird that this is seldom discussed when discussing Messi's place in the all time greats that he takes PEDs but its fine because he is short and he is not viewed as anyone else would be as a drug cheat.
No matter how you feel on the fairness of this, its quite obvious to say, Messi wouldn't even be a pro footballer without steroids let alone be considered one of the greatest ever.
at 5'7 hes taller than Maradona & Scholes , imagine if Diego had chosen HGH as his drug of choice, that would have been frightening!
But I guess doing coke is bad in football, but steroids are fine!

With GHD Messi is free to use rHGH according to FIFA & WADA. Even he shot some in his thigh at a press conference he has a TUE.
For the umpteenth time, the question was, given he could never have made it as a pro without being pumped full of drugs is it fair to compare his achievements to natural athletes when it’s fair to say without synthetic enhancement he would never have even played a first team game

Doping is absolutely rife in football and the governing bodies have never, ever tried to get serious on it. Messi is a relatively rare exception in that his treatment was officially authorised.
Anyone who seriously believes the old line about doping not being of any great advantage in football is completely deluded.

Why dont you ask yourself why the doctors note is missing and consider that maybe the kid used growth hormone as doping because he has no condition? Which would mean it is an entirely different case to Messi's.
