Daniel Levy

Welcome Nuno. Hope he does well. It's a shame that we are all a bit underwhelmed and the appointment is a bit meh. Simply because of the circus that went before it. Hope he does not get off to a rocky start.

Some may say it was all hearsay and rumours. We will all just be arguing amongst ourselves about who was always the first choice manager...

But anyway I digress, Levy seems to be at a pivotal point. Clearly he will leave behind superb infrastructure with the stadium and training ground, but will his legacy forever be tarnished by all the blunders and penny pinching that has constantly been associated with him?

Especially if the Nuno appointment fails. Will he have to then put his hands up and finally step down?

What will Spurs fans memories be of Mr Levy in 20yrs time?

A very decent appointment by Daniel Levy, and we should all give our full backing to Nuno.

Not really sure what some Spurs fans want.

You do.... They all wanted Martinez

With all due respect Pepper, WTF has anything Spurs related go to do with a no mark like you? Now just crawl back down your hole.

That depends upon whether there'll be a Tottenham Hotspur to remember by then!

Levy is Joe Lewis' dog's body. A stooge.
He is also an idiot who refuses to recognize market forces, and thinks he knows best.
Which he does not!
ENIC has made a god damned mess of a great football club.
THAT will be Daniel Levy's epitaph.

Funny to think that pre ENIC we'd never made the top 6 let alone higher in the EPL. Now fans expect top 4...and you say ENIC have made a mess of the club. Now with Revenue to compete with the higher end and 15 years of Europe. Crappy couple of season granted, but why deal in such extremes while ignoring facts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely. Some of our fans need to have reality check. The club were going absolutely nowhere until ENIC turned up, and they have absolutely transformed the club on and off the field.

The only thing Spurs have done in recent years is supply half of the England side - and look where that got us

Any comparisons I’ve seen with Jose are just lazy, really uninformed views. His sports science and fitness/recovery work is far greater, his interest in player development far higher. He may not be the most attacking coach, but pre-season starts now, he knows the PL inside out, he’s very well liked by players - I’d much rather Nuno now, than say Mason or Klinsmann, which a lot of people were saying they’d be willing to accept for a season (myself included re. Klinsmann), or even Gattuso or Fonseca, who have no PL pedigree - so in that respect this is a good hire.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Worth noting on those points that Nuno never watched our u23 side. He only really showed an interest in developing players already in the first team or young players brought in through Mendes (Neto, Silva, Jota, Neves etc).

On fitness and recovery, he always wanted to play with a small squad and would use few players. This led to him playing negative tactics which would see our players run less than pretty much every team in the league. First halves became a none event as he would just focus on holding shape and not conceding. This is the reason we had such a poor record for goals in the first half.

I think he was liked by the players, but last season they had several 'clear the air meetings' and it has come our that players were questioning his tactics and methods. After his first season too, new signings tend to spend 6 months on the bench and a few have got frustrated with him. He was also supposed to be very grumpy round the club and had to work really hard on the relationship he built with the fans and community here (as the fans did love him) as it went against his natural character.

He is very similar to Jose in being a safety first coach. I don't think it is surprising that there are so many similarities, given Nuno played under him for Porto when they won the Champions League. He is a good coach and did an excellent job with us (the most successful manager I have known). However, I think Levy (and this post above) actually have the most uninformed views as they propose the limitations he has shown as a head coach as his strengths. He is the type of manager who needs to be allowed to get on with it and work in his own way. If allowed that, he will be able to build something and do a good job. I doubt he will get that at Spurs and with all this talk about football DNA etc. I don't think the fans will give him very long to adapt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting points, you know him better than most I’m sure, but I still not convinced about the Jose comparisons. Seems that any slightly pragmatic coach gets likened to Jose, I think some were saying the same about Conte when we were first linked with him. Nuno has said many times his inspiration is Jesualdo Ferreira, and Jose and Ferreira hate each other. Sure, he played under Jose and I’m sure there’s some influence, which isn’t a bad thing given Jose’s success, but the football on show in your first 2 seasons in the PL doesn’t strike me as anything we had to put up with at Spurs last season.

We’ll see how it pans out, but for me this is a far better appointment than hiring an interim coach like Mason, or an unemployed coach from Serie A like Gattuso. Certainly wouldn’t have been on the top of my list, and he should have been hired a month ago given he was available, but at this point in time, it’s not a bad hire.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

His system the first two seasons was all based around the counter attack. We would get into shape without the ball, then press when it went into certain areas and break quickly. It was very effective and was much better to watch than recently. For some reason he stopped doing this midway through the second season and it had mostly gone from our game last season.

I think he will do a good job if given the time and resources. He has the players to play that counter attacking style from the first two Wolves seasons at Spurs, but I don't think that is what Spurs fans want. He turned down a few signings of creative attacking midfielders at Wolves (Dani Olmo being the big one) as they didn't fit his style.

He supposedly tried to implement a more attacking style last season with Wolves. We saw it a few games, but as soon as we lost he would revert back to the defensive stuff for the next run of games. So I'm not sure Spurs was the right fit for him, with what they want. He will have to adjust his style completely to keep people happy there I think, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
