Lawwell's Legacy

So that's him kinda done now apart from the "advisory role" the will continue to function in.

I've often had mixed opinions on Peter Lawwell, on one hand he kept the club safe and free from the type of club killing catastrophe that Rangers endured, but on the other hand his dithering and tendency to be frugal was costly.

I recall us being in a poor final situation when O'Neil left and he very quickly turned that around and produced a model which could and did, succeed.

My issue with Lawwell is that he could have done so much more for Celtic than he did because he was overly cautious, the amount of times we were unprepared for the champions league qualifiers & missing out on deals due to penny pinching was disgraceful, John McGinn was the big one, as was Steven Flectcher who i believe would have got us over the line in the league that year, instead we lost.

He helped with some big decisions over the years, we got in Rodgers and initially we followed his example and reaped the rewards of that, treble after treble, and we can't on one hand blame him for the bad and absolve him of credit for any good.

Kept our club safe, and profitable. and played a part in our success but made some bad decisions which proved to be costly, in terms of champions league revenue and ten in row.

Last season was a tripping at the finish line and setting himself on fire, an absolute disaster which he brought on himself when he wandered into the showers at hampden at the opportune moment to hand his pal a gig without even considering other candidates.

Then he allowed the schit show to drag out because "lenny deserving the chance to finish the treble" was more important than the league.

onwards and upwards now, hopefully it won't take us 20 years to conclude a transfer.
