I read the comments of Stephen Pearce the CEO of Derby this morning in the DET with a little bit of dismay :
"We have a core of senior players and extremely talented academy players. That is enough to operate with, and we have a plan for the rest of the window."
"We are not rushing to fill the squad for next week. We have a clear plan ready, pending the future ownership. One of our strengths is our strong relationship with Wayne. He is fully aware of the situation, is informed and supportive."
I truly hope that he is simply playing his cards close to his chest. We escaped relegation by the skin of our teeth last season and the squad has been further depleted by the outgoings. I agree that we do have some talented youngsters but they are not seasoned pro's....which is what we need atm. We need as a minimum 2 x CB's, 1/2 midfielders & 2 forwards. Yes we have the likes of Bird, Sibley, Knight, Watson, Duncan, Stretton & McDonald but they are all young lads still finding their way in pro football. If we add the anticipated arrival of Mengi from Man.U - again a player aged c.19 we have a largely inexperienced squad. I think if Curtis stays it'll add some maturity in the team but he's at the other end of the scale being aged 35 (I think). I'd like to see Shinnie as Captain this year and truly hope that Beilik can recover from his injuries. Another season of struggle beckons and I fear we will start the season as relegation favourites. I hope I'm wrong.

After 2 serious injuries, I'd like to see Bielik played sparingly, possibly home matches only when he returns.

If you've come across Thorne's interviews the one thing he highlights was being pushed into returning back too soon and not given the correct physiotherapy to recover.

My concern last season was we were playing Bielik continuous without a break ( correct me if wrong ) and unfortunately he broke.

There's lots to get right, question of who we're going to sell ( for peanuts ) whether that's our LB, Knight or Sibley . Midfield balance it's clear is not right, we need someone to compliment Shinnie with Sibley, Knight or Lawrence in my opinion best suited in a no.10 role ( Knight of course could play as an 8 )

Bird needs to be used as back up option DM, until he bulks up further or develops better technical ability. We need more tenacity in DM. I'd be happy if we became an ugly, hard to break down side so that we're not seen as an easy win for opposition.

There's LOTS to get right.

I really cannot see us not signing a few free transfers and/or loans.
If as anticipated, we have a points reduction, and with the squad we have, surely the board know it would be suicide, and be down by Xmas, plus I would imagine Wayne will have made it clear to all concerned what he requires to at least make a fist of it
Hope the rumour about Cold play is right, and I would not mind Paterson back with him, and give him a fair crack of the whip. I have always thought he's a decent player.

'building bridges' with other clubs to me suggests that we're being knocked back on the basis of reputation, clubs don't want to deal with us.

if other clubs feel we've cheated without proper punishment (they do) then they're going to be less inclined to loan players to us, or accept offers from us.

doing right doesn't always work in your favor with this though, we've ousted dodgy agent situations in the past which undoubtedly means any players represented by those agents are less likely to come here, or demand more if they do.

building bridges with the EFL also sounds like desperation, because it is obvious at this point that unless we dance to their tune we'll end up in whatever division they want us to be in through transfer embargoes and wage caps which they appear to have freedom to apply as they see fit.

post Brexit our relationship with UK clubs is going to be more important than ever, as the market for signing overseas players is all but closed, and options are more limited, we can no longer show interest in EU based alternatives to force clubs to lower their valuations.

As anticipated? By who?

Unless we were very close to the loss allowed in the 3 year period then it's not at all guaranteed that the difference in amortisation costs will take us above it. I'd be very surprised if we just happened need exactly £80m to stay just below the £39m threshold so hopefully we will have a decent buffer.

Do you really think the efl will let us off the hook with just that fine?
I think they have got the hooks in, and won't want other clubs think they can get away with anything that will escape punishment

If the new accounts don’t breach FFP then that’s the end. They can’t keep coming up with things even if they might want to.

ths is the EFL, they tried changing their mind over what was allowed in our accounts, they could just as easily come up and say they've changed their mind over Mel being a fit and proper owner due to a number of things they didn't see coming and put us under another embargo until he's gone. They're already making it up as they go along for anything not set in steel.

Whilst your all making some good points, we could still go into administration which would be the only way i can see us getting points now. The club will be happy to let the 100k fine slide as someone else said, it'll cost more to appeal it, if they start trying to change the rules again though i can see us appealing the lot and I can see other clubs getting involved as well if we look like winning to say they've been treated unfairly.
