In addition to giving Mata a new deal, I see that Lee Grant has also been signed up for another season today. How miserable are our coaches if we need to keep giving guys who never play new contracts in perpetuity, just to boost dressing room morale?!
Anyway, with Tom Heaton also coming in, that means we currently have 4 first team keepers on the books, at least theoretically. For me, that hints that one of Henderson or Dave may well be on their way. Given the fact that De Gea is on ridiculously huge wages, do we think this may be the end of his time at the club?

Yeah I was thinking that with Grant, but seems pointless even having him on a playing contract as a fourth choice keeper.

Henderson to go on a season's loan, with Heaton as the backup keeper this season. Grant to keep Phil Jones company in the physio room on matchdays.
De Gea to sign a new contract with a massive wage hike. Henderson to be pushed to third place when he returns, and not get a look in, but sign a bumper new deal with a massive wage hike. Heaton to sign a new contract.

I think DDG still has the edge over Henderson, and with the terms of his contract, would be difficult / costly to move on.

Not unless we get two injured. Not a single other club in the PL has 4 senior keepers on their books. But then, no other club gives people playing contracts to fulfil the role of dressing room counsellor. So maybe we will keep all 4.
