Mick Bates, a smashing player, a schemer type of old fashioned inside forward variety....good ball player type and usually played when such as Giles or Bremner couldn't play, injured. A shame he didn't play more games but he was a most valuable member of Revie's squad.
Another great from Revie's squad no longer with us.

RIP Mick Bates.

So relatively young...very sad day for Leeds', the old Revie team is slowly disappearing.

Always appreciated players like Mick without whom we wouldn't have had teh strength in depth to compete at etc top for so long.

I imagine very few outside of Leeds would know the name whereas they all knew Bremner, Hunter, Clarke.

RIP Mick Bates and thank you for for leaving such an amazing legacy and history for us.

Thank you Mick - you were and will always be remembered as a part of our greatest ever team - one of Sir Don's lads.

I read about Mick’s passing. Very sad indeed. Yes, I do remember him. A squad player wasn’t he (as mentioned above usually stepped in during an absence). He had jet black hair if I recall.

RIP. Mick was a player who was very comfortable on the ball, for this reason often used in European ties. He would have been a first team player at any other club, but could not break into the Leeds team ahead of Bremner, Giles, Lorimer.
