What are the excuses ?

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Ben White for 50 million and have supposedly had a bid accepted for Locatteli. Leicester have made 3 very astute signings already this summer. Aston Villa have made an excellent signing early. All clubs in and around where we finished in the table and all improving their squads. What are peoples excuses now ?

You can’t throw the bull** Covid line because other clubs are spending money improving their squads and stadiums will be back to full capacity again. The club as per usual, are prancing around failing to get rid of the deadwood and doing nothing in the market.

United are looking to really push on this season with signing Sancho. Let’s not forget Chelsea, City and Liverpool will 100% be improving their squads too. Difference is, none of those 3 need major work so can afford to wait it out a little. Our team needs huge reinforcements and we are doing nothing about it with pre season well underway today. So I ask the question for the people still sticking up for this mess of a regime.

What are your excuses ? Seriously starting to run out of them if I’m going to be honest.

The stupid thing about this is we actually need a quality FB ( together with a entire back line ) and yet Levy sits back and watches Arsenal ( of all clubs ) pick up a quality player.

Is exactly the same as watching Wan Bassaka go to Utd, when we were ( and still are ) desperate for a quality right sided FB.

And don't tell me Arsenal are a more attractive proposition than Spurs, because they simply are not.

No this is all about a Chairman who simply does not want to spend money on the playing staff of our club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

£50m for Wan Bassaka who spends more time sliding as he's out of position and can't attack for the life of him.

Big money doesn't always equal big players.

I mentioned PEH earlier, one of our players of the season, look at what other clubs have spent in that position... Fred £50m give or take, Keita a chunky fee, even Jorginho has been better for Italy than Chelsea, even Arsenal was what? £34m for Xhaka?

People hark back to Poch, we got close, but we've been in finals over the years, many semi finals too. We've put together squads capable of getting there. 1 Cup win in 20 years is a lazy tagline when we've had opportunities for better than that but the players/coaches have fluffed it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Big money wins trophies mate and generally means eventual success. You can boast about PEH all you want mate and criticise Chelsea for signing Jorginho, but at the end of the day, who won the CL? Who bottled it when we hat the opportunity? Our chairman never provides enough quality in the squad to truly challenge for honours. What Pochettino did that season was a miracle. Yes bad decisions were made by him, but that season we spent nothing. How in the hell do you justify that ? A summer transfer window and the club provide nothing for the manager. F** scandalous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Don for the last time, Spurs are not financially doped like City and Chelsea. What part of that don`t you understand? Are you serious saying Spurs should go out and spend a billion on players?

Lucky you are not running our club, we wouldn`t have one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Stop using excuses all the time Sandy. Arsenal, Villa and Leicester are spending this summer. Are they financially doped? No!!!!

Villa and Leicester have smaller squads and a much lower wage bill.
Arsenal are even more of a mess than we are.

And if we signed the calibre of player that Villa and Leicester sign (generally) you'd be querying the lack of ambition until they proved to be good signings at their respective clubs

I would say we are on par with Arsenal. Not much in it mate. Difference is, Arsenal actually have won the odd Fa cup. Leicester have made some cracking signings mate. The striker they bought will 100% improve them. Spurs have done nothing as per usual and are probably in need of more reinforcements than any club in the top 8.

Surprised you still care, Don!

Normally at this stage I'd be all over transfers or keeping an eye out for how we get on in preseason friendlies. I think we have one today against Orient. Couldn't give a sheet. The last couple of years have ripped the heart out of things for me. I started supporting Spurs in the late 80s courtesy of the Gazza / Lineker link so, aside from the 1991 FA Cup win and the odd League Cup, I'm not spoilt and expecting immediate success - I've grown up with decades of terrible teams from the early 90s onwards. I think this is the first time we've ever had a truly great team in my lifetime and we've totally imploded. Through a series of terrible, terrible decisions at board level (mainly sacking the man that made us that great team) and lack of financial backing, we've become distinctly average again with nothing to show for it. When we were coasting in 11th every season 20 years ago, we knew our place. From around 2004 up to 2014 the club was very much on an upward trajectory, albeit slow on account of a lack of funds to truly compete. I was fine with that as we had a plan. Then in 2014 we really started to compete. The perfect manager for the perfect team that nearly got is within a whisker of the greatest club prize of all, all without a change in funding. Then he's inexplicably sacked and replaced with someone that could not have been a squarer peg in a rounder hole, disharmony spread through the squad and we lost all that pressing identity under Poch. Players stagnated, stale ones overpriced and never moved on and now we're here. No money, stadium debt greater than any in club football, a team past its sell by date with a manager, who, whilst nice enough, doesn't seem to (as yet) have the pedigree of a Pochettino and what does it matter if he's not given the tools to do his job properly.

Levy has done this. All of it. I'll back the club, of course, but a little of the love has gone for sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Couldn’t give a s** about today’s pre season friendly either mate. The same old s** defence isn’t suddenly going to magically improve under Nuno. Never felt as disconnected with the club as I do now mate. Not even looking forward to the season which is something I usually always look forward too regardless of Spurs quality. I think 10th or 11th this season mate, it’s that bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been a supporter for over 30 years and I don't think I've ever felt so disengaged either. It's not so much where we are - where we sit now is still miles better than any of the teams in the 90s or 00s - it's more about how far we've fallen in such a short space of time. The downward trajectory. Sure we felt that a bit after Redknapp was sacked but it didn't feel quite such a fall from grace. Under him we were always scrambling to get into the top four every year. Under Poch we expected it. Hope was replaced with expectation. That's gone and we find ourselves post-AVB again but there difference this time is that we haven't got a pot to pizz in.

I want the ownership out and replaced with some rich Arab state funding. I couldn't care less about human rights violations. I don't think Man City fans care much about that. They're too busy celebrating.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

LOL, couldn`t care less about human rights violations. I think you need to have a word with yourself fella.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of a situation like that. Obviously human rights violations are awful BUT I'd like to see that narrative challenged by a Man City fan or a Newcastle fan that very nearly became the next super club were it not for the fit and proper test rule. I wonder what the City fans would say if you said to them "sorry, the owners have to pull out due to human rights violations, here's Franny Lee back". That would really test their principles. Robert Maxwell owned Derby County who was quite clearly a massive crook. Then there's the Italian guy in charge of Leeds. Football ownership is littered with people that have circumvented law. You could argue that by owning an English club, a fan base will grow in the middle east and western exposure could create change in policy in those countries. The more you bridge the gap between western civilisation and countries we consider to be backward with archaic laws, the more they become more civilised themselves. That's what the hope was in terms of giving them the World Cup, along with Russia and other more controversial choices, albeit with a huge financial bribe. I just think there's different ways of looking at it. Punish or rehabilitate?

If Nuno can't get our current squad totally revamped, new back four, keep Kane or else do a real deal, find some kind of replacement for Bale, etc. etc., then Spurs are going to be in a real hole.
And he may be saint Nuno Spirito Sancto, Ahmen... and gone!
Except for Levy's great record for attracting top class managers!

I haven’t bothered reading all of the posts, but I agree with Don. Other clubs show a willingness and a desire to improve their teams. £50mn is completely absurd for White. Nevertheless, our rivals are showing intent to go to the market to try to improve. What the fk are we doing? It’ll be more bargain basement, transfer deadline day Sissoko type deals Nuno will have to work with. Rinse and repeat.

I don't mind us signing say 5 players around the £20m-£30m mark as pretty much every signing we have made north of £30 has flopped in some way but I do have a problem with not getting the signings in early to give them time to settle into the squad.

Don having a meltdown over arsenal signing Ben white for 50m (absurd) is comical.
