For some reason I'm feeling

a bit nostalgic.
So a little bit on Duncan Edwards. He was often described, locally at least, as the best player in the world. I always find these descriptions a little false, firstly because of bias, and secondly who ever heard of a fullback or centre half the best player in the world.
He wasn't the best header that was Tommy Taylor, not the best dribbler that was Billy Whelan.
So to his attributes, he was as hard as any player I have seen, if you tackled by him you stayed tackled.
He wasn't captain but the team seemed to revolve around him, he was a born leader as they say.

He could do everything well, and could have played most positions, like George after him, but in a different way of course.
I loved his runs forward, I've said it before, and I still see it in my minds eye, he ran straight and if anyone came to tackle him they bounced off him.

The nearest United player to him was Roy Keane, though a different style.

One amusing difference was he was 23, had England caps, but lived in lodgings, and was engaed to a lass who worked in a factory I think.

He is one of the very few who could have played now. I wish he could be resurrected just to see his face when players go down.

He took giant strides coming out, and a Dudley accent when he shouted on the field.

But you are neglecting the fact that Edwards was only able to shine because of the likes of Bill Foulkes, Paddy Crerrand and a young Bobby Charlton around him.

It is, and always was a team game.

Paddy Crerand?

Taken too soon

Was it WBA or Leicester fans who hated him? They coined that phrase "man you are m@nure" when he died. Very classy lot!

It was West Brom, though I never heard it, and always enjoyed my visits there, so long as Jeff Astle let me enjoy them

United and West Brom had a rivalry that lasted into the 80s. It started after the ManYure song they sung about Duncan's body becuase he was a Wolves fan. Classless.

After that United used to sing a song about WestBrom which was sung with gusto from all corners of Old Trafford, EVERY home game for years, and not just at West Brom games.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside where the brass band plays Feck Off West Brom.

With a major empasis on Feck Off West Brom.

(I always found it strange when I heard this song as I knew that The Hawthorns was as far away from any seaside you could get!)

We’re so lucky we have Jones who is pretty much the same.

Jones was some player during his breakout season for us with those buccaneering runs. Still remember them fondly.

It's a shame he never got to fulfil his immense potential due to his reckless way of playing, never ending injuries was the result!

Actually Plump,
As you know I can't be bothered looking things up, but I have a vivid memory of getting off work,so it must have been a night game, driving to the Hawthorns with Mick as company, and getting stuffed with Astle scoring a hat-trick.
But was it 6-3 pr 5-4 or something else, but I do know we didn't win.

Ooh I see the one star bandit has struck. Every little helps. I hope it was a baggies fan; not a United fan on a Dunc article
