Lewis Bate seems to be signing for us. Name probably unfamiliar to most. He's an 18 year old midfielder, currently playing for Chelsea's U23s, been a regular for them in the PL2 this year. Very highly rated, and capable of operating as both a deep lying midfielder, and also more as an 8. Got a brilliant left foot, going off some of the online videos, and seems to be a feisty tackler also (he's only 5'6)!
Won the PL2 Player of the Month award in December, probably his most noteworthy achievment, and has made matchday squads for their senior team before, which is a pretty impressive achievment for an 18 year old.
Seems that he is disillusioned by the pathway into the Chelsea first team squad, and wants a club that sets out more of a clear vision, away from one of the more faceless academies at some of these bigger clubs (he rejected an approach by Liverpool). One to get a bit excited about, I reckon. Hopefully he is better than the last Bate we got from Chelsea.

Livramento is a RB, and we already have Drameh, so its not a position we need another young player. The fee is fine. Similar fee to Greenwood.

I maybe need to get a life but Bate at £1.5m+add ons is our 55th highest transfer fee in and the most expensive fee for a teenager.
Seems a lot of money.

Tino was viewed as the prospect most likely to be able to have a crack at the first team if he stayed
Bate was the other big hope from that age group but the plan for him no doubt included a couple of loans whereas there was a feeling Tino could have been put in the squad

RWB, but more a RB than a RW. Besides, he will probably be a first teamer at Brighton, whereas Bate won't be for us.

I don’t blame any of them for thinking they have a better chance outside of Chelsea
The prospect of making it into the first team squad isnt the same as when Lamps took over and there was a transfer ban

We are now promoted in the youth ranks to the high yes level so need quality youngsters in there. This lad by all accounts on Chelsea Twitter, is amongst the best youth they have and has a very high ceiling.

from what I see on Youtube, Bate and Livramento have got an understanding, Bate seems to have a good eye for a pass which is a really positive but Livramento looks to be able to be able to play in a couple of positions, it's a cliche but given this is what Bielsa merits coupled with what looks like a good relationship with Bate and the fact that he appears to have more potential than Bate, would it have been worth a punt to go for both.
