Is it just paper talk?

I understand Kane wanting to move to City to play with KDB the best player in the PL as a midfield provider and with the best coach in the world, and I even understand City wanting a striker. However Pep seemed happy to play with a rotating front 5 last season and City won't be held to ransom by Levy. I guess it is paper talk although it is easy to understand the motivation of a player wanting to win something and the club thinking maybe they should have an alternative to Jesus.

I suspect it will come to nothing and Torres and Jesus will be the main options if Pep plays a traditional striker. Haaland next year is my guess, if they can get him.

Pay the asking price, or turn your attention elsewhere.

Simple.

Kane wants his move to a club where he can win things he needs to tell Levy to put a realistic price. £25 m, less than Haaland is a fair price.

£160m gets you a player that was both the top scorer in the league last year and the top assister. That’s in a Mourinho team that finished 7th.

His injury situation is a funny one, he never really gets a serious injury, however he tends to miss 5ish league games a season usually to do with his ankles. He is not that injury prone though.

I suspect you will wait until next summer when the price will be much closer to £100m.

80 million quid, plus either Sterling or Jesus, might be a good deal for both clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why would City let Sterling go?

Why not?

Sterling was a better player than Kane throughout the Euros and suits City well, although he needs to be sharper than he was for the last 10 games last season. City wouldn't let him go and he wouldn't want to move to Spurs, he loves winning things.

Because he's been a key part for Pep for all but the last 2 months of last season and isn't worth that much less than Kane.

Probably more in all probability.

He'll be 29 next season, not even United would pay that for a player at that age.

Reading the Spurs board and they seem to think Kane is sort of Ronaldo and Messi rolled into one, with a sprinkling of Mbappe added for good measure. He is a great player and playing with even better players like KDB will help him but he isn't the Messiah.

Best player in the PL? He won't even be the best player at City. I'm ambivalent on this, yes he is a great player and a good addition to the squad, but as Boris say's we won't get 9 or 10 years out of him and at £100-£120m he is overpriced for a player of his age and injury record. Better will be available this summer or next, for less money.

The smarter move would be to hold off and go for Haaland next year (if indeed that is when he is available). But that risks being left behind this year, we’ve paid the price of doing nothing in the market the year after winning the league before, after all.
