United sign Paul McShane

New signing that's gone under the table. Former youth prospect Paul McShane has commented on the surprise news that he will be returning to Manchester United. It was announced on Friday that he had rejoined United.

McShane has immense knowledge after featuring in over 400 club games in his career as well as 33 international fixtures.

The move comes 15 years after he left the club for West Brom in a deal that saw Tomasz Kuszczak join United on a season-long loan, which turned into a permanent deal the following summer.

He has taken to social media to thank people for their messages of support.

The former Republic of International wrote on Twitter: "A big thanks to everyone for the kind messages, really appreciate it.

"Delighted with my new role back where it all began and looking forward to learning/working with the staff and players."

how can you say it'll be a decent signing?

he was gash as a player when we sent him to west brom and im guessing in that time he hasnt turned into maldini.

he has come from Rochdale with little to none coaching experience and is coming in as an over age player for the u23's.

decent signing me @rse

So you don't think that the U23s can learn from training and playing alongside an experienced international?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
im sure they can learn something, but i wouldnt exactly call it a decent signing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So a promising coach comes in who can help the youngsters develop and you don't think that is a decent signing?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, its a potential to be a decent signing if it works out, but on the flip side it could be a total waste of time, nobody knows because the guy has very little experience in the coaching side of the game

But he used to play for us, so meets all the criteria required to be on the coaching staff. What other credentials could you possibly ask for?

Well he does have his A Licence coaching badge and has spent time coaching our U16s.

I think it is a great idea personally. The young defenders get to learn from him and he can tutor them. Likewise, the forwards to get play against a seasoned international defender, which will help them prepare for if and when they make it into the first team. The kind of experience and challenge that will have been missing since the B league was scrapped.

I can't comment on McShane's capabilities as a coach but having our reserves playing with and against more experienced senior players can't be a bad thing. There would surely be some benefits to having qualified staff who can not only coach players in training but also guide them on the pitch when playing alongside them in competitive games and against them in training too.

I firmly believe and have done for many years that a set number of first team players at every club should play for their reserves if they've not played for their first team at the weekend or midweek as it would not only improve the standard of competition at reserve level which is badly needed but it would also help those first team squad players with fitness and sharpness.

We should also try and involve the actor Ian McShane as well. He's a United fan and his dad was a former United player.

Granted, he's a bit of an antique these days, but I'm sure he'd bring some love, joy to the club.

He's been signed to exclusively coach and play with the u23s only.
