Imagine just 18 months ago thinking that Varane, one of the world's finest defenders, would turn down Real Madrid's contract offer to sign for us. It only goes to show the progress we're making, not just domestically but globally; not many players refuse the offer of a new contract from Madrid. This is a truly outstanding signing as he will allow us to play a higher line, whilst complimenting Maguire perfectly.
It feels so different already this summer. Last year we were all facing an anxious wait over Sancho, but immediately this window it feels like Ole has taken the gloves off; meticulously improving areas of the team that were holding us back, whilst also bringing in the right type of personalities like Varane who will make more of our team believe they are winners.
To add a champion like Varane will work more wonders than some may think. His mere presence on the pitch will help players believe we can win titles. This guy has never lost a cup final, he's won numerous league titles, European cups AND a world cup. To be honest, I think what held us back a bit last year in January/February time when we were in the race was just having that bit of winning experience that we've now got.
