It's getting tiresome with these footballers. Set a compulsory release clause in every players contract and move on.
If a player rates themselves then they should have an agreeable fee. If its not met shut up and do you your job.
Levy isn't stopping Kane from leaving its just Kane thinks he is worth less than what Levy wants and is sulking. This is pathetic behaviour and should be dealt with using release clauses in the future.
Time for Compulsory Release clauses

I am also in favour of the salary cap system really, I think it would make for a more competitive league and it doesn't just cap wages, it would cap clubs spending as well in general. Less cost on wages, more that can be pumped into improved infrastructures, youth development etc.
The longer we go without one, the harder is it, practically, to implement successfully.

100 per cent needed. The sooner the financially doped clubs are brought back to the rest of the field the better. Astonishing the way the authorities have just sat back, and let the money men take over the game.
Ridiculous that City can just outspend every other team because of their oil money, same with Chelsea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's to prevent clubs from finding 'creative' ways of paying their players more than anyone else, just like they've found ludicrous sponsorship deals beyond their competitors' reach to flout FFP rules?
I remember at one point that PSG's deal with Neymar was said to include a large stake in a Neymar-branded hotel chain or some other ridiculous scheme.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing to stop them trying, Saracens were giving players property as part of deal, they were found out and deducted points which lead to relegation, always going to be clubs that stretch the rules, even as it is now
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, Rangers died doing that.

Not sure how that helps the league become more competitive. Most of the clubs with the highest wage to revenue ratio are the clubs with the least revenue. All the salary cap does is remove the ability of the smaller clubs to take risks on their wage bill to improve the team.
Everyone talks about how well Leicester are run but they wouldn’t be if their salaries were capped. They spend something like 75% of their revenue on the wage bill.
Salary caps work in America (only in certain sports) because it’s a closed shop, without transfer fees and similar corporate structures across the leagues.
It’s just not comparable to football.

Agreed. May be a max % of turner over and an high level cap. So say 60% of turn over but no greater than 250m.
The impact it.would.have would be to prevent the bigger clubs accumulating so much of the top talent which means lesser clubs may be able to hold on to their best players or players may have to chose between winning stuff and wages.

The reality would be that they’d just go abroad, because none of those leagues would be stupid enough to follow suit when they know the financial advantage they’d have. It’ll never happen here for this reason.

If they don't bring in some kind of financial equality, then by the next decade football will be finished as a competitive sport. The authorities have a choice.

The thing about salary caps etc is that they essentially just assure the status quo.
@Sandy, people have been saying that for decades and the game is still going, stronger than ever.

In fairness, I think this was the argument when the Premier League was formed, yet it's still competitive these days.
Ultimately, you will always have a richer club than another, who are likely to be doing better than the clubs who do not have that wealth.

Would this financial equity argument stretch to CL places?

Wages don't win leagues. Arsenal used to pay Ozil £350k a week. Utd used to pay Sanchez £500k a week.

Flawed argument. Those are just poor and individual examples.
If you categorically pay higher wages across the squad then you can and will attract better players, or players will be incentivised to choose for you. It works like that in any business.

I'd argue that it should do really, it should be European-wide, rather than just strictly England. The wage bills at both Real and Barca and their off the field issues should highlight why this would be important.
