This is according to Laurie Whitwell at The Athletic.
This is worrying as I still feel we are lacking a bit in this area. Iām still unsure if we can mount a real title challenge with our current options.
Hopefully we can make a few sales and the situation charges.
Camavinga, Ruben Neves and Saul Niguez seem like the three we are showing interest in. Not sure who would be best from that 3.
No midfield signing is likely

I feel we’ll only get a midfielder if Pogba goes. If he stays we’ve got more than enough to see the season out.
Pogba
Bruno
Beeks
Fred
Matic
McT
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’ve enough to see it out no doubt but are McFred good enough to mount a title challenge?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All depends on how well our front 4 do. Title challenges are built on the smaller games so I’d hope Ole would only use McFred for the top 6 games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem is that the “smaller games” are becoming fewer and fewer, so I’m not sure this stacks up as much as it once did. Realistically, anyone in the top 8-10 teams now is going to cause you problems.
City
Liverpool
Chelsea
Spurs
Leicester
Everton
Arsenal
That’s 14 games where as a one off you’d consider a draw a good result…. But 14 points from those games would see you looking down the barrel of a season in the Europa Conference League.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Everton? Not sure they should be in there. Perhaps Leicester, so that bumps it up a bit but I’m not even sure we’d need McFred against the likes of Arsenal or Spurs at home.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't you lose to both Spurs and Arsenal at home last season. And against Spurs was a battering 6-1 I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Beat them 3-1 away when both teams were on an even keel fitness wise and finished comfortably above them in the league š
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But lost at home to both teams, which was my original point.

Yeah and my point was that United weren't fit at the time. It was clear when they met on an even keel that Spurs are nothing to be remotely worried about.

I think most United fans would be happy to see several deadwood players sold. Problem is they're on wages that don't make them attractive to buyers

Isn't DG on over 300k a week? U do have some mental wages. Interested to see what vdb is earning sitting on the bench. Even martial and others must soak up some serious $

We are scared of contracts ending and the player going for free.
It must be close to the stage where the wages tip the balance the other way

Yep it's long seemed that way. And I agree, if they're on big wages and not contributing on the pitch, it's probably best shot of them

It isn't just wages, the cost of keeping a PL footballers spans into all sorts additional costs, from coaching, physio to equipment, insurance, travel etc.
