At the end of last season we all knew that to continue our development and progression we'd need a stronger first eleven in order to face 1) a rejuvenated Celtic team under a new manager with money to spend, and 2) a higher level of opponent in Europe with Champions League qualification, instead of Europa League qualification as in previous seasons.
However, instead of recruiting automatic first team picks we've taken in, so far at least, Simpson, Lundstram, Sakala, Wright, and Ofoborh. I don't think any of us would see any of the above five as automatic picks from what we've seen so far. Wright shows great promise and has been the best of the five but Lundstram, Simpson, and Sakala have been unconvincing, and we've seen nothing of Ofoborh. We seem to have rested on our laurels a bit and recruited, very cheaply, squad players rather than in 2 or 3 automatic first picks......a missed opportunity
A few weeks of the window still remain, and as has been said in previous posts since the season began, it's too early to judge. Overall however we have gone for (cheap) quantity so far rather than the much needed ( and more expensive) quality.
