I remember playing football as a kid during the 1974 World Cup,smashing the ball and shouting Muller followed by my neighbours window smashing to bits

That goal against England in the Mexico World Cup killed me as a kid. What a player.
Still, Ramsey replacing Banks with Bonetti will remain one of the greatest mysteries in football.
MÅ«ller was arguably even better in the 1974 WC.

My memories exactly.

Given all he’s achieved, wonder why he’s not more well known? While he’s still highly thought of, looking at his career you’d imagine he would be more revered, perhaps even on that Maradona/Pele type level. The insane goal records for club and country, the fact he won it all for club and country.

Probably because he was England's nemesis for a number of years and the fact he was German.
If he played 20 years later and acheived the same standards, I think he would be more highly thought of.

Banks was suffering from suspected food poisoning and wasn’t fit to play.
