Hull City 0 - 1 Derby County

HULL CITY v DERBY COUNTY ........... CHAMPIONSHIP Game 3

MKM STADIUM 1945 18 August 2021

So, an extension has been given to Derby’s homework – seems the EFL weren’t that desperate for the accounts, we can now submit on the 24th August. How desperate were they?

Derby go into this game on the back of a demoralising defeat at Peterborough. I genuinely thought we were home and dry and it was only when Scouse broke the score to me on here, I realised that from being top of the league we had shipped two goal in injury time.

Hey, ho - on we go.

Two new signings - Phill Jagielka on his 39th birthday and Sam Baldock. Seems the EFL felt sorry for us and let them join. Be interesting to see if they slot in on Wednesday.Jack Stretton is keen to kick on after scoring his first goal for Derby - the injury to Colin looks and is serious and I don't realistically seem him coming back until the play-offs.

Hull have had a mixed start after a comfortable opening day win, they then contrived to be thumped by QPR. And guess who has just signed a one year contract with them? Could we have done with him here?

Someone remind Cat that it's a LATE K.O....................

Team news from Dixie:-
Roos Byrne Jagielka Davies © Buchanan Shinnie Bird Jozwiak Morrison Sibley Baldock Subs: Allsop Forsyth Williams Stearman Hutchinson Watson Stretton

Mmmmm.....doesn't work for team sheets

I watched the first episode of "We Are Derby" on the DCFC website. It's a bit airbrushed but some interesting moments, notably after the Man United friendly where Rooney and Rosenior are analysing the video of the match, freeze-framing to look at when a pass might have been cut out. With the coaches and giving their two pennorth are Davies and Jagielka. Neither were signed at the time but clearly both were part of the inner circle even in pre-season.

And therein is the real point. Sadly, but perhaps inevitably, the modern reader its no longer interested in crofting or wildlife reports. But nevertheless, with few exceptions, the quality of reporting and debate is exceptional. And I speak having played for the Mellor U11's. Keep it coming

It is easy to see when a pass might have been cut out in hindsight. We all know that Keogh should have just lumped that ball at Wembley anywhere up field or out of play .It is whether the player has the vision, decision making skills and the ability to do it during the game.

At Peterborough Byrne was in the right place, intercepted the pass and went to play it up field. Trouble is he made a total hash of the last bit.

In any occupation training tends to help people do their job better. Mistakes will still be made but you can reduce their frequency. Some players have naturally good positional sense but you can see how studying the game and practising situations on the training pitches might help players get better at that and improve decision making. In fact Byrne initially tried to shepherd the ball out for a corner, but it got caught under his feet and he panicked. As with Keogh at Wembley all we remember is the final mistake but the ball should never have got that far.

On Twitter, not everyone's favourite social media platform there's a page called Derby County Analysis and it comes up with good stuff from time to time.

Thought i'd share this one with you all...

It's a focus on Bird's more direct passing range vs Hull. If it makes him more effective, continue in the same manner.

That ball to Jozwiak was delicious, if the move had come off, bella bella !!!!!

Rooney has said ideally he would like to bring In 8 more players before deadline day.
That would seem impossible under the embargo.
