When you start rubbish like Maguire and Lindelof, and then put an ageing Matic in front of them, and an inept RB in AWB. You deserve the sack.
Rubbish line up, rubbish tactics, rubbish subs. Outcoached by Ralf and a terrible soton team.
Fitness is an issue but that's what subs are for. Just like with Villareal, Ole makes a sub when Matic and Fred are have already completely killed the momentum of the game.
Temper your expectations. Going to be a long season and Varane and Sancho can't fix Ole's flaws.

We thrash Leeds and struggle to Southampton—no different to last season so far.

when teams open up we destroy them
when they park the bus or press us high up the pitch we struggle
Ralf took off his best attacker but that sub changed the game. it looked like a routine win for us but he didn't sit back. Instead he exploited all our weakness from last season and went for it.
Expect more performances like this.
We'll go on a great run of form before xmas and then the team will be run in to the ground again by Ole.

The really top teams would be attacking relentlessly towards the end of that game, seeking out a winner. And they'd probably have got it. So long as our players aren't actually fit enough to do that, we'll be a long way off where we want to be. Not being good enough is forgivable, not being fit enough isn't.
