Southampton was Ole’s 99th PL game
His record is
W 52
D 28
L 19
P = 184
Only these managers are ahead of his record:
Klopp = 53/28/18/ 187
Pep= 73/15/11/ 234
Wenger= 53/30/16/ 189
Mourinho= 73/18/8/ 237
Fergie= 62/24/13/ 210
Pelligrini= 65/17/18/ 209
Mancini 61/19/19/ 202
Dalglish 55/23/21/ 188
Keegan 55/22/22/ 187
All of these won a title except Keegan who infamously bottled it.
Solksjaers record is better than Rodgers, Pochettino, benitez, O’Leary, redknapp etc

It's not irrelevant
They are world class managers that would have immediately commanded the respect of and gotten more out of a squad of players that only weeks earlier had lifted the premiership trophy.
Moyes to me was like the managerial equivalent of a young utd fan walking into OT for the first time

No, that would be Ole which is damming considering how often he played there

Do you remember that picture that was doing the rounds of him signing autographs and looking at the camera with the caption "I have no idea what is going on"
Poor David

Why didn’t they get that when they managed United then?
And yes it is irrelevant, because it’s a fictional reality that ignores the context of the job Moyes had taken on.
That team was champions, but it wouldn’t have been champions without Fergie and RVP playing out his skin. The defence was a mess, the midfield was a mess and Rooney was clearly not the player he used to be.
Moyes made things worse, but that wasn’t a squad of players that were capable of repeating things under anyone else.
Every big name manager we approached turned the job down. Ask yourself why. It’s not difficult, because they weren’t going to take on an impossible job with that team.
If Fergie retired in 2008, they’d have been queuing up to succeed him. Because that was a world class team.

I always though that was the time for us to get Jose. Surely his ego wouldn't have allowed him to turn us down.

The initial expectations weren't for a repeat of what fergie did. Not from the fans or from the club. That was the reality and context of the job Moyes took on.
He was even given a 6 year contract ffs
He did however take over a squad of players who were newly crowned champions and by the time he was finished with them they were a complete dissillusioned mess.

It was from the fans. Which is why it felt so low for so many, pretending otherwise is rewriting history.
And it’s why the mood was so low in the squad, all they’d known was winning.
But you aren’t really saying anything that contradicts the point made about Moyes. I’ll leave you to it.

_______
The mood wasn't low because Moyes wasnt going to win the PL or CL that first season because their were no expectations for him to do so.
To say there was is ridiculous and definitely revisionist.
The reason for the "low mood" was the laughing stock and shambles we were reduced to during his brief tenure.

It seemed that every week we would manage to break a new record in the wrong direction.
