Mendy - Played for City after two arrests

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/aug/27/benjamin-mendy-footballer-remanded-in-custody-on-charges

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said Mendy was released under investigation on 11 November last year after being arrested on suspicion of rape. In January, he was further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, the court was told.

Byrne said one of Mendy’s bail conditions was that he should not have house parties. She said police were called to a party attended by up to 21 people at Mendy’s home in the Cheshire village of Mottram St Andrew this week. He was then arrested over a further allegation of rape and for allegedly breaching his bail conditions, the court heard.

The prosecutor said Mendy had shown an an unwillingness to comply with his bail conditions, and he should be remanded in custody to prevent him from carrying out further offences.

She said: “The defendant has shown total disregard and, the crown will say, an arrogance in ignoring the bail conditions and continuing to conduct his social life as he chooses."

Were the previous arrests public knowledge already? I missed it if so

Like this guy played last year. How many appearances was he making with two sexual assault arrests hanging over him?

City better off suspending this idiot immediately. He broke his bail conditions by throwing a house party

You haven’t. 👍

Good. Cos I didn't want to.

Look, I’ve no problem with you. My problem with this has been clear. And it’s clear what the OP was trying to do.

And that is to try and turn what is a serious incident into a blame game. A bit of banter to put down another club. Any fan would have a problem with that. Whoever you support - if an employee of your club did something not related to your club, but then fans of other clubs started pointing the finger at your club, instead of simply pointing the finger at the employee in question…

You hopefully get the point.

I get your point, yes. But you're ignoring the fact that he was originally arrested months ago. That's what prompted the OP. The implication is that the club was aware of the charges but played him in the first team anyway.

If they didn't know, then you're 100% right. If they did know and played him anyway there's several issues there that go beyond bantz. Hopefully you get that point.

This is a question that has been asked frequently by City fans on Social Media during the last 24 hrs.

If they club knew then he shouldn't have in the 1st team squad unless there's factors none of us are aware of.

I’m not ignoring that at all.

I’m saying that is irrelevant.

For me, no one should be held accountable, other than the person themselves.

If a Tesco employee was arrested, and then released (without charge), should Tesco suspend that employee?

Should Tesco have a finger pointed at them.

My opinion is no, they shouldn’t.

The finger - the sole focus of this should be on Mendy. He has charges to answer for. City don’t. And the fans (or in respect to my analogy above, Tesco customers), don’t either.

Again, this is about Mendy. Not the club who employs him. Not the fans who support the club (or even the fans who have previously supported Mendy).

Bringing the focus of such a serious incident onto the club is unnecessary. And we all know why fans of other clubs do this.

There was even a City fan on here who pointed the finger at and criticised Liverpool for the actions of Standard charter. It’s all pretty obvious why. To cast a black mark against a rival club.

I haven't read all the posts but the facts are:

Mendy was charged for a string of xexual offences.

He wasn't deemed to be a risk to others so he was released on bail on the condition he didn't have more than 4 people in his house at any given time.

It's alleged he ignored these conditions by throwing a number of parties, including gatherings of over 20 people on several occasions after he was granted bail.

He's now on remand for breaking the conditions of his bail, not for anything else.

As for the club not suspending him, we don't know the full facts yet. I do know however that if I'm charged with any criminal offence (no matter how trivial) I have to report this to the relevent authorites by law due to the fact I work with kids and vulnerable adults at times.

My only assumption (and it is an assumption) is that either he didn't notify City or there's overwhelming evidence suggesting the case would be thrown out of court.

Guilty or not, Mendy (27) is an idiot who the club should sack immediately.

Yeah, irrespective of whether Mendy is guilty or not, the guy is an idiot.
